I'm still perplexed why the bottom corner of H on the South Stand is rarely sold.

The segregation that is imposed there is a joke most games, given that there is 2/3 blocks before you start to get to the away fans on Bramall Lane lower. Even then, it should be sold, if the rest of the stand is nearing sell out.

I hope the club are putting pressure on SAG (or whoever has made this decision).

Absolutely staggers me anyone can criticise our numbers at home.

I know crowds are up everywhere in general compared to 20 or 30 years ago, but this season is likely to be the second highest average attendance we've had since I started watching us in 1981. And that with the smallest number of away tickets we've probably ever given, even 4k less than many seasons.

Bizarre anyone can be so critical. If we stay at the top all season we'll probably only end up a thousand or two behind the PL season.

Whatever the pros and cons of exactly how many attend our home games, many years ago, when 'good old' Mike McDonald was Chairman of the Blades, we had home crowds of approximately 12-15,000 (feel free to correct me if you're in possession of the actual attendances for this period). The ground looked as if it was crying out for what we're getting now, so I think we should all take a second, reflect, and then look at the last couple of seasons and understand the type of progress we're making with home crowds. During our depressing stint in Division 1 we averaged 18,000, quite amazing when you consider how loyal supporters were when you consider how stagnant we'd become.

Now we've achieved promotion to the Championship, and shown our ability to compete at the very top of this division, we're now getting approximately 26-28,000 per home game, the ground is fit for purpose, and I suppose it was a case of what would happen when promotion was achieved. Of course, who, realistically, would have imagined us doing quite so well? But here we are, showing just how good we are, with the supporters buzzing with anticipation at what the next few months might reveal......whether there's a few seats currently free per game, imagine if our progress continues next season? This will become a redundant conversation as season ticket demand will increase, and our crowds swell to around the 30-32,000 level.

All told, we're in great shape, with the best squad I can recall, superb management, and so much to look forward to.......maybe it's me, but having experienced truly bad times I'm sensing very little that suggests we're about to take a backward step. And before anyone pipes up, yes, I know, something, anything, can happen, we're the Blades after all, but I refuse to succumb to this type of mind-magic. Hard work, talent, and superb judgement is what's taken us from the bottom of Division 1 to the top two of the Championship, with no sign of there being any reason to think otherwise. UTMB

The bottom corner of H block is always free, part of the segregation policy. It's used for miscellaneous freebies such as those who supported the Remembrance Day display on Saturday.

For me, if it's part of the segregation policy then it should remain completely empty at all times. On Saturday there must have been at least 50 people in there and could well have been due to the Remembrance service as mentioned above.

However, If it is ok to allow people in there, then they pose the same threat TO away fans, or would be subject to abuse/threat FROM the away fans as anybody else who are currently denied access to that block.

From where we were sat in the John Street stand on Saturday we were no further away from the Hull fans than we would have been if we had sat in that block in the South stand

It is therefore arrant nonsense for that block to form part of the segregation policy and should be opened up for general sale.

Ah the old urban myth that safe standing will increase the stadium capacity somehow , for every standing place you have to have one of the rail seats so how on earth will this increase capacity?

A little research will help you out.

For every 1 seat there is 1.7 people stood.

100 seats is 170 standing.

That’s an increase however you want to dress it up.

No doubt, I think our crowds are great, I often look at the premier league and think they've got someone like Man City at home and got less or a little bit more than we did against Ipswich or whoever. And when I started going to Bramall Lane it was smaller anyway, no corners, and though I'm hazy and someone can correct me, I'm almost certain the South stand had nets over a large portion of it because we'd been sanctioned for something, and it still wasn't anywhere near full.

Out attendances are something to be proud of. In the percentage of capacity used we're up near the top of the table.

I just feel like there's an atmosphere around at the moment, that more would want to come but don't for whatever reason, money, seat position, and a little push could get us up around 30K every game.

That's a lot for a 4 year old. Personally I feel like under fives should be free with an adult ticket but even under 5's a fiver, under 10’s a tenner, make it a proper offer, would be good, and regular quid a kid deals etc

I'd hope there'd be no issue with people abusing it but if needs be that could be sorted if you had to register for the offer, pop in to the ticket office with some birth certificates and it's on your account.

I'd think a full stand with cheaper prices for kids is going to be more profitable for us, and I don't know how much attendances affect the prices we can charge for advertising but it can't hurt can it.

We need to get the yoof in regularly, get them addicted.

You can get a half season ticket for £40 ;)

Damn. Wish I was 4. If I have a shave do you think I'll get in?

I go with my Dad (pensioner) and brother (full time student) and I get some reyt pricing jealousy. I've got less money than both of them haha

I meant for the 4 year old obviously but I think you'd need a bit more than a shave .... :D ;)

Agree with all of that Tom. I'm not one for competing with the out of town team in S6 so not the least bit concerned with how many they attract or are prepared to lure in with special offers etc.

Over the years there's been much talk about ground redevelopment, and if this happens all good. But one reason we're in relatively good shape is because we haven't overstretched ourselves, hence our building brick by brick to give us a ground and team that can achieve success based on having a solid foundation. Who'd have thought just two years ago that we'd have the squad and manager we now have? I reckon that at our current rate of progress we'll find, and this includes away support, we could quite easily reach 30-32,000 per game, but that's at our current level of progress. Another season in the Championship won't harm of course, but one thing you can't do is look a gift horse in the mouth, but that's a conversation for another time.......achieving upwards of 27,000 per game isn't to be sniffed at, and is easily the envy of supposedly more successful teams.

Maybe in Germany mate, it will not happen in England not for a long long time if ever.

I take it your not very old FM, because if you think our crowds are as big as they have ever been you are sadly wrong. Yes I was in the below 10,000 crowds pre Warnock and took no pleasure from it at all. You only have to go back to our last season in the prem where we averaged over 30,000 or the Tony Currie years when I've stood in crowds of over 40,000 more than once. Then when you count the floating fans who go to Wembley there must be room for improvement so I have no regrets about telling them to get off their arses and support CW and the lads.

Over 33,000 average, 1971-72

Here at the Lane anyone hoping for safe standing is going to have to accept that prices will be higher. Because otherwise there's no sufficient return on investment and it costs the club money to do the development. If you keep prices the same, it's a simple case that more fans are needed to cover the investment and maintain turnover.

It's not as simple as people think, and a few claim.

23,809 at swillsborough last night. Presumably disguised as empty seats. The ground was half full. Or half empty, if you're a Wednesday fan.:)
