Wendy fans in their late 30's know real success and know real misery. Younger ones know misery and failure. To get 21k against Rochdale is a magnificent achievement imo - couldn care less about cheap tickets - they have sustained our crowds for ages. I believe they averaged more than us when in 3rd tier and we were in 2nd a few years ago - will stand corrected.

Anyone would think I'm arguing that the world is flat. I'll say again for you Alco - Wendy's support given what they have had to watch in last 12 years is exceptional and deserves credit. IMO their away numbers are bigger than ours imo - again I aint some numopty making this up. I read things (not on wendy sites), read stats, see with my own eyes on TV - their away support is magnificent.

To be honest Alco you should be embarrassed that you seem totally unable to put owt in context or in relative terms.
are you touching yourself right now ?

Touching you, touching me
touching you, god you're touching me

I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love
Ooh!

Way above for many years? Not sure about that at all Swiss. Simple fact for me - Wendy have more fans than us, their away numbers are magnificent and their home crowds are sensational given the 12 years of misery thay have suffered.

I don't deny their support away is excellent and their home numbers have been ok. However, a simple fact for you - We have had consistent and considerably higher attendances in the past 5 seasons. They're our nearest rivals, had similar success and failure in the last few years. Do they have more fans? Probably about the same.

So as I said, to see our support on the first game being considerably lower than their first home game is concerning when neither side has much to shout about and were on a par with each other nowadays.

It wasn't a comment to turn this into an us v them debate, it was a comment made to provide a realistic comparison.

I don't think prices at either club are high, I don't think that the strategies for bringing fans in is good at either club, i'd say we're similar. End of the day I believe that we should've got a few more for the first game

The way I see it is they started on a bit of a high with Mandaric putting money in for transfers and getting Smegson in as manager. As usual Wendy are very easily convinced that they are gonna do well. We always take a lot of convincing. Especially after last season and several before. As usual they had their first game at home which is always worth a couple of thousand on the gate. Just like giving the manager a run of games to prove himself, lets not judge the gates so soon. Historically wendy can get bigger gates than us for games they see as important but they can rarely hold them to give a high average.

It will be interesting to see what their attendance is on saturday after their 2 previous results. Last season they had 23000 on the opening day, then I think it went down to 18000 for the next home game. Still a good turn out mind. Thing wi t'pigs is, and this has happened frequently in the last 10 years, they'll get 35000 as their maximum home attendance, and their lowest can be around 14-15000. There's not many clubs that will have such a massive difference in their top and bottom crowds. Leeds are often the same, one week 20000, the next 31000.

In the scheme of things it doesn't really matter whether they get more than us or not!
What matters that if the Blades do well and get promotion this season the crowds will come back if not they won't it's as simple as that!
Obviously Walsall and Brentford don't have the same drawing power as Leeds or West Ham or Birmingham!
But if them lot over in S6 carry on results wise then we'll see the crowds dip over there!

Wow. Just wow.

Evening Wendy. Still behind the Ginger one are you after your hilarious start to the season? A couple of facts for you. 1. The Blades crowds have been bigger than yours for several years. 2. Even though we got relegated, we averaged over 30k under Warnock in the Prem - something you lot couldn't manage in 10+ seasons in the top flight, even when you qualified for Europe. Enough said.

the one thing i can never work out is if you are a pig what do you hope to achieve by pretending not to be for so long and if you arent ,why arent you ? you seem to love everything porkular

So let me get this straight. You two agree with the statement that Wednesday have "had similar success and failure in the last few years" as us. If you do then you must both be cretins.

We have had massive improvement and lots to cheer about since the turn of the millennium; two cup semi-finals, two play-off finals, promotion, Premier League football and vastly improved attendances and ground development.

Wednesday have been absolutely shite ever since they were relegated from the Premier League and have endured one of the worst periods in their entire history. They have been an absolute shambles and a laughing stock. They have had absolutely nothing to cheer about.

To be called a cretin by a Pig is laughable. Shouldn't he be banned for that Foxy / Linz? You seem to be ignoring my main point about Prem crowds & the fact that you averaged less when qualifying for Europe than we did when being relegated. But I'll let you off - it must be difficult for you - 1. being a Pig and 2. living in a shit-hole like Barnsley.

When I spend my time trying to get a rise on internet bulletin boards, I'll be truly embarrassed.

You really have turned in to one sad case, Mic.

1. I'm not
2. Barnsley's not a shit hole

What the hell are you even arguing with me about? Did you even read my posts because if you did you must not have understood them properly.

Why are you always getting riled up and going off on one and calling me a pig? If you want to have a go at some real Wednesday fans then I suggest you pop over to Owlstalk and fill your boots because I can assure you that you're barking up the wrong tree with me.

Wednesday's attendance today against Notts County - 16,979. Not a lot more than our's against Brentford. (Edit - As has been pointed out, this should read Walsall)

You would probably expect Notts County to take more away fans to Hillsborough than Brentford did to Bramall Lane, but obviously this match was on the back of 2 defeats for Wednesday.

Jury is still out on who will end up with the bigger average come the end of the season. I suspect it will be closely linked to the respective fortunes of the two clubs. If both clubs end up in a similar league position I would guess that final average attendances are likely to be quite similar.

It was less than we got v Brentford - but slightly more than we got v Walsall on a Tue night, when Walsall brought a mini bus full

Quite right! Again, it tends to suggest the support levels for both clubs are fairly similar at the moment.

If we can manage to avoid defeat at Yeovil, our next home attendance should be interesting and could give an indication of the sort of attendances we can expect if we maintain a healthy league position.

Oh dear Alco - please seek some help pal. You think 2,600 to Bury is somehow a poor following? Oh deary me. I fail to see how pointing out wendy have very decent away support is some sign of madness? The figures speak for em sens - 2,600 to Bury on a Tuesday is phenomenal in my opinion.

This really is the worst post ever, ever, ever in the history of football debate in terms of its closeness to reality. You really think wendy have had a similar time of it than us over last 5 years or so? True madness.

Great post Nuddy - the post by Swiss is beyond belief.

Just let me clarify once more for the hard of undertsanding - Wendy's support is magnificent given what they have had to watch since year 2000 approx.

Simple answer mic, yes. Perhaps I've just started to believe your drivel and think were as bad as them.

By my reckoning we've had a memorable (imo anyway) term in Prem, then I believe finished top half CCC for 3 terms, including a 3rd place. Not that any of that is casue for celebration given the resources available - you could have managed the same. We've then got relegated in the 5th season so yes that is 2 relegations and a crushing disappointment at Wembley but how a sound bloke like you can compare that with what wendy fans have watched in the same timescale will forever remain beyond my comprehension - as such there are crwods and especially their away followings are ridiculously good.

Fkin hell. It's a joke on here at times. PN (Nuddy) is clearly a Pig & Mic might as well be. Ludicroulsy biased pro-Pig posts by them both.

A real Blade would never post such pro pig posts even if they were true.

Bashing your own club is bad enough. Doing it by trying to tell us how much 'better' our near rivals are at this and that? Well. How low can you get? A limbo dancing worm..?

Wendy do get a lot of people through the gates given what they've had served up. But as the riots reminded us, the world is full complete and utter halfwits.

:D

Oh darn I've been caught. Yep you've got me, I'm a Sheffield Wednesday fan.

I've just been going to Sheffield United matches and following them all over the country for the past decade because I get some sort of bizarre thrill from it.

That's quite a good line Sitters, fair play. McCabe and Birch, Blackwell and Alehouse have I admit knocked the stuffin out of me, so it has no impact on me whatsoever when I say (quite rightly and based on easily available numbers) Wendy's away support is utterly magnificent. Maybe I aint a real Blade in your no doubt ridiculous definition but not for me this ridiculous blindness to quality, loyal support when you see it. Same with Leeds at WHU today - brilliant support, and a great performance.
