Attempted car theft

Not sure if it's the right area. But fuck it. Someone's tried stealing my car on View Road near the brothers arms and the sheaf view house. If anyone's seen anything please let me know. Police aware but usual "we'll get back to you"
Sorry to hear that pal.
I can’t help with any info but hope the damage isn’t too bad & they catch to twats.

Ripped the cowling off my lock, broke my panel containing the OBD but the immobilizer worked (fucking trampy rat bastards)

Scum.
Probably can’t even read - the sticker 5” above their ‘handy work’ should be enough to warn them they were about to fail in their attempt.
I detest thieves with a passion.

Absolute scum. Had my car damaged near the Lane a few seasons ago so now pay to park in the albeit expensive cheese grater Q park, where at least you get peace of mind.

A got nicked on Myrtle Road during a match a few weeks ago. Think it was a night match.

Awful. I had my car damaged pretty much where you mentioned a couple months back. Wing mirror just left swiveling. Idiots.

Let me guess Fiesta ST, loads going missing in Sheffield at the moment. The latest trick is to pop the deadlocks off at the door handle then get in through the tailgate as it doesn't trigger the factory fit alarm. A Disklok is a good visible deterrent unless the bastards are armed with cordless grinders.

That is exactly how they did it I think. Though the alarm had gone off as the lights were flashing. Going to invest in one of those doorlocks that's not a key, or completely remove the lock (cars keyless) they've rifled through my bag in the boot as they've taken some shit aftershave (left a coat there worth over 200 quid though?) Thick bastards. Plod are "going to call me within 48 hours" so they'll have chance to take a few more before the police can be arsed to do owt.

Disable the boot switch so that it will only open with the key fob is another option, dummy OBD, Disklok, Viper immobiliser are the minimum security on the Fiesta ST, I'd add a Thatcham 1 alarm too which will go off when they open the tailgate the Ford alarm doesn't.
BTW plod have been putting out warnings of ST's going missing for a few weeks now around Sheffield I guess there is a chop shop in the area

Not sure how I'd disable the boot switch, I've got two of those security features you mention, immobilizer and dummy obd, probably why they'd ripped the side plastic off hoping to find it. Still awaiting the call from the plod. It's all good saying "they're going missing" well what the fuck are they actually doing to stop it? 😂 Jokers. Regards the bootswitch, if you'd know how it'd be much appreciated if you could message me privately :)

Not sure how you get the tailgate to work only off the key it is something I read on the Fiesta FB pages, maybe a good auto electrician would know. As for plod don't hold your breath while waiting for a call, I'm still waiting three years on from having intruders in my back garden.

Some absolute scrotum has just tried to do mine. Smashed drivers door, removed ignition barrel and tried to wire it. Must of got spooked and legged it. Can’t find the ignition barrel? Why take that? Insurance saying suspected write out so won’t even give me a rental until they assess…in fucking Doncaster. Cunting cunt it

Might not have been trying to steel the car at all.

I know 2 people who had their BMWs done in same evening. They stole the steering wheel airbag from both.

Post-pandemic supply chain issues and 80/20 part reduction etc. Is causing lots of items to be hard to obtain. Many are being stolen to order

I never even thought of that. You could be right mate. Once they were in I would assumed they would just code a new key and that would be that. But the scene is weird. No ignition barrel, and all the wires pulled under the dash…

Don't know if this helps but, I had a problem where the battery kept draining, which is not uncommon on a soft top mx5. After numerous attempts to find the problem someone suggested a battery isolator switch. So now whenever I leave the car one press of the additional key fob and everything is dead. Won't stop someone breaking into your car but at least they can't drive it away.

Is that like a kill switch? I was thinking of something like that as it goes. Installing a kill switch between the battery and the ignition with a remote fob or even a hidden flick switch somewhere on the dash would basically brick the motor. I’m even considering a ghost immobiliser (£500!!!!) My only issue with hidden kill switches, immobilisers and trackers is some pre-cum might still put my window in before realising they’re getting nothing. Plus I hear CAN immobilisers are now getting hacked too…

nice one. How much are they to be installed?

There’s some right wankers about. I hope they get caught in the act then tortured to the hilt in a garage somewhere because the old bill won’t do fuck all about it. 🤬

We have a ghost immobiliser on ours, think it was more than £500 but worth it so far for the peace of mind. Some cretin may still try it (and have done) but were scared off by the alarm which sounds like an air-raid siren going off in terms of decibels. Another time we think someone tried to break the window and couldn’t (footprints on the window), so they smashed the wing mirror off instead. That was nice

It cost me about £60. About £35 for the unit, rest labour. You need the type with a remote key fob. It looks fairly simple to fit. If you have a reasonable knowledge of car electrics you should be able to DIY. I don't, so paid to have it done. It's not foolproof as it's fairly straightforward to remove and reconnect the battery but it takes some tools, time and knowledge which your normal car thief doesn't have.
As I said originally I got it to stop the battery draining which we couldn't find the cause of. (Fairly common problem in older Mazda's evidently) It was only afterwards that I realised it is a useful and cheap anti theft device.

Maybe consider getting a telematics product when you renew your insurance? Would depend on the type of box you got, and wouldn't stop the car getting nicked, but if you get one that isn't immediately obvious upon theft, then your insurer would be able to work out where the car is

You could leave the car unlocked and some scrotes would still put the window in :(
