What away game, if any, stands out as a game you sat back at and went 'wow, what an atmosphere' in regards to the opposition support?

I see pictures of Dortmund and Galatasaray and imagine that'd be intense as an away fan, but I'm struggling to think of any occassions with United.

Been totally bias surely forest and arsenal fans (play offs, nade 1-0) were impressed with us those nights.

I can't really comment on the question but the atmosphere when you beat us 3-0 on the 16th August 2008 was one of the best home atmospheres! You were so loud during that game! Lol

Every visit to Britannia Stadium. They're reyt loud

Ipswich when we were 0-2 up at half time and Counago got sent off. Second half will be a breeze thinks I. Instead Marcus Bent came on for them and him and Darren Bent were awesome with the latter taking the piss out of Wayne Quinn's isolation at full back.

We lost 3-2.

A longstanding coach (been there since Bobby Robson era I think) had just lost a cancer battle and there were very moving tributes that I think somehow galvanised them. The place was rocking and felt more so because they put you on that slither on the side and all four sides got going. Helped I think that they don't seem too keen on us, coupled with the underdog comeback and topped off by three goals in 45 mins.

Stadium of light, even tho it seems light years ago when we last played them.Im not old enough for the roker roar but that ground is rockin when they get going.
Peter reids got a fcukin monkeys ead fcukin monkeys ead fcukin monkeys ead:D

Roker Park in the 60's, they had just signed Jim Baxter and they wiped the floor with us. No segregation in those days, we were mixed in with very vocal home support. I'm sure somebody will remind me of the scoreline, might have been 4-0.

Charlie Bell scored for us. He was a young CB who played a few 1st team appearances for us before going to Chesterfield

Certainly not monday night! ;)

Our games against Millwall always get them going down at the Toolbox. It is their Cup final though.

Someone had to post the link below for this thread. Apologies in advance for anyone who clicks on it.

Charlie Bell, Ken Mallender, Reg Matthewson were all tried to replace the great Joe Shaw. Nobody was quite right until we signed Eddie from West Brom.

We always seemed to get well and truly stuffed up at Sunderland in those days.

Seriously? Any time I've been there the only atmosphere has been from us. A few chants of Delilah and that's about it.

Must agree. Went to the old Victoria ground a couple of times. Always found that place far more intimidiating than the Britannia. We played Stoke in the early 70's and news came through that TC was injured. Thought that would put paid to our chances. As it was we won 3-2 and I think Mick Speight had a good game. On the way on the coach some Blades noticed 'Newcastle under Lyme' signposts and thinking Newcastle must be a local rival to Stoke started chanting 'Newcastle, Newcastle' at the home fans. FFS.
The other occassion at Stoke was sometime in the 90's when we won by 4-0 or 4-1. I think all our goals were headers.

The second leg of the league cup semi final at Anfield. I couldn't get a ticket on the Blades end and ended up in the Centenary (?) stand among all the scousers. The volume of noise and continuation of chanting and singing by the Blades was more than impressive. Better than any kind of suuport we have seen from away fans at BDTBL. When you are detached from your own in the home end and listen it really is something else.

A neutral venue, same season v. Arsenal FA Cup semi at Old Trafford. The Blades support was incredible. Never been more proud to be a Blade. And this was a game we lost. Were there any Arsenal fans there?

Not wishing to merge threads but if Jim Phipps wants to know why I became a Blade - it's due to this incredible support from a set of supporters who have given so much for so little for so long.

Proud to be Made in Sheffield and Born a Blade.

Away at the sty when we won 3-1. Oh no that was us making all the noise wasn't it?

Charlton in the PL season was pretty rocking. As was Palace a few seasons ago, last match of the season. Like bornablade I was in the home end for this one (with a few Blades) and the noise from the away following was something else.

Is the reason Sunderland has been mentioned to do with the fact we always seem to get beaten up here and never ever fucking score?!

First time at the SoL was the only time I've seen us score there and it is still the only time we scored in Sunderland since Bryson scored the winner in 1991. Of all the places to live.........

Anyway the best atmosphere I can recall from the Blades away would have to be Newcaslte and Chartlon in the Prem, non stop noise.

Other than that I can't recall anywhere being particularly noisy, apart from possibly Southampton in 2008, Sunderland in the cup in 2004 was a decent atmosphere.

Anfield for the League Cup semi. Not so much for their singing, but there was a general crackle in the air every time they went forward. Not heard it elsewhere.
That was from climbing up all them fecking steps into the upper reaches of the Streftord End - knees, lungs, everything was crackling!
;)

Erm....

Oh yes, I saw this first and responded to it after I saw the crackling comment

I was right an' all, howevere, yes the atmosphere at Anfield was fanstastic.

Remember the chant aimed at Phil Thompson - "Big nose, he's got a f@cking big nose"

The first verse was loud but then the second one was deafening (v loud on the f'cking bit) and even the Liverpool fans were enjoying it!

I think Thommo was even conducting the second verse lol

The Semi at OT was an immense noise from our lot, I think the only time I heard the Arsenal fans was when they scored.

You're getting your 4-1 defeats mixed up. Jones got the goal in the one on 28/8/65. We also lost 4-1 at Roker on 5/11/66 and it was that one Bell scored in.

Charlie Bell's footballing days were long before my time, but I had the real pleasure of watching him bamboozle batsmen when playing cricket for Coal Aston. A top bloke and a real character.

Oops! I think I read somewhere that Charlie played up front in one or two games
