I didn't have any opinion about a singing section one way or the other

It's not too long ago that we had a couple of unofficial singing/chanting sections

The problem is certain people wouldn't behave and plod closed it down

True. A few very vociferous individuals also totally overestimated the possible take up, based on no data other than that's what they wanted themselves.
