Which didn't work out (can't remember the reasons why) so we ended up with that useless twonk instead. I can fully appreciate being financially responsible but if you keep lowering your standards you head downwards, it's a vicious circle.

It didn't work out because as he was due to sign, contract on the table, one of those pesky agents mentioned to him (not being the brain of Britain) that if he waited until his contract ran out instead, he'd get any money that would have been the transfer fee as a signing on fee instead of Reading pocketing.

I have two problems with that version of events:-

1) If we hadn't agreed terms with the player/agent, McCabe shouldn't have been announcing on the official website that we had a replacement for Beattie "All lined up".
2) If Blackwell genuinely had a £1M+ transfer kitty available to him and 18 days left in the transfer window. Why did he only sign C.Beattie and Lupoli on loan?
