Arrogant Adkins

And there, ladies and gentlemen is the real cause of our problems. We all thought we'd got a decent manager but it's actually pub league Adams who has come back ;).

In all seriousness though Robbie, you make a decent argument for a conspiracy theory that I'd actually considered.

we can only pray he didn't think that team was likely to beat anyone.

This thread title becomes more and more apparent the more Adkins doesn't strengthen the fucking defence.

He came in like he was good enough to turn the shite defenders we have in to good ones, as he clearly stated he was happy with McEveley and Collins going into the season, and even when he gets a chance to realise he was very wrong, he still doesn't put it right.

I wonder if he'll do anything after this defeat. The board might be somewhat culpable but the manager has to take a large amount of responsibility.

Is he being given the money to do what needs to be done? Sheffield United have a track record and this board don't convince me.

Other clubs seem to identify problems & then act to try & solve them (by bringing in loanees to cover key positions, or whatever).

Our approach seems to be: sell your best player early on in the season, then spend months & months chasing (sometimes unattainable) targets, regardless whether those targets are needed to resolve the glaring problems that everyone can see.

We've become a bit of a basket case.

When you write it out like that Alf you cant help but laugh at the hapless people running things from behind the scenes. I'm sure they are very smart men in their own fields, Unfortunately for us they know as much about football as Joey Essex does about classical Greek philosophy

He doesn't need money, just needs to stop pissing about with 4-4-2

Mentioning Joey Essex there, just makes you think having Joey on the board here would probably improve it no end.

I'm sorry but we have just swapped one Nigel for another
There are disagreements on this forum but we all agree where we need to strengthen and have known since January yet two managers have not either been able to see it or have stubbornly ignored it

I think.i actually pointed this several times early on. How similar the two people seemed to say things and what they did.... (buying old mates... or ex derby players etc)

Adkins has proved that he's a class above Clough. Unfortunately, he's laden with his slow, unathletic, bang average third division team.

I'm going to blithely ignore the facts and choose to believe the conspiracy theorists who claim he set them up for fall as he wasn't getting backing from the Board.

Looking at the line-up, it's hard to argue against it.

GK - A confidence player who cannot command his box or deal with crosses against a team who are great at set-pieces and lob balls into the box?
LB - who wasn't good enough to play in his natural position for the club last season
CBs - who are poor in the air and are not commanding against a team who are good at set-pieces.
Baxter - protecting the defence against a determined and tough-tackling midfield :D:D:D
Adams, a raw talent against hard tackling defenders who don't let up.

Unless Adams has been broken by the Reading experience, he's suddenly become a dreadful manager who can;t judge players or the opposition. This seems very unlikely. I'm going to cheer myself up by making myself believe that his actions yesterday, lack of recruitment and with naming J-Mac as captain are all part of a cunning plan.

It's some plan he's working to?

Why do you think yesterday was the first time he could evaluate players? Genuine question.
He'll have been evaluating all along - but even those of us who've seen a lot more are learning. I thought the team would react better to positive tactics - I thought Chough's negativity held us back somewhat. Sadly, I was wrong - the players are just not got enough and need clearing out. It's taken a quarter of a season more for that penny to fully drop with me.

I put us down for automatic in the poll. If we don't get new blood in quickly and get Done / Brayford up and running, we won't even get near the play off's.

Different Nigel, same story

Sell one of the best players before season starts
Don't replace player
Don't get in at least 2 central defenders
Strange 1st day team selection
Lose 1st match of the season
Get occasional good and surprising results (Swindon, last year Bristol City away)
Lose at home to unfancied teams
Go behind in most matches
Concede from set pieces
Not enough pace
Missed out on targets on transfer deadline day
Seemingly chasing loan targets who either don't want to come or clubs won't release
Losing at Gillingham and Port Vale
Playing catch up with the teams at the top
