Arnold f'ks us off

So does anyone know why Dave Bassett is involved? Has he never left since Adams brought him and Cork in?

In fairness Bassett hasn't managed properly for a few years and the jobs he's had since he managed us haven't exactly pushed the teams forward. Seems he likes the back seat more nowadays.

IF there are longer term plans afoot to bring in a manager working under "football director" Bassett I'd be very worried, not so much because its Bassett, but because I believe a manager should pick his back room staff. The board set the budget and the board have a man like Dooley to try to get some impartial view of the football side.

The interview with Arnold is enlightening but potentially damaging for SUFC and Arnold himself, but I'm sure it'll blow over soon enough. I don't know enough about Arnold, but I'm sure he's respected in the game.

The biggest issue is that we're still managerless, the preseason starts in a few weeks and the manager won't have a say in it. The entire selection process has been a drawn out joke and it just smacks of a bunch of directors that don't have a clue. On this occasion it seems that the selection team does not comprise Kevin McCabe, which could be good, but it could also mean that he has no loyalty to the new man so could wield the hatchet far too soon again.

Decisions need to be made quickly and with intelligence, sadly it seems that we're lacking both.

Given a choice, I'd re interview Danny Wilson! At least he knows the bunch of tossers in the team because he signed most of them!

I believe Kevin McCabe is still a Board member of Central Coast Mariners. The next board meeting down there could be interesting...

"we dont know what were doing"

until we get an entire new board weve got no chance of doing owt.

thing is swiss, all thats been dragged around this last week, warnock seems an amicable choice for me now.
Just this last week? The season ended almost a month ago, Wilson fired two months ago (?)...at least in the past the board gave the impression that they knew what they were doing!

More chance of Carlton Palmer not winning a Pinocchio lookalike competition, than Warnock coming back?

why is the club becoming a joke because McCall decided to not go further in the process and a bitter Aussie has an axe to grind?(because he wasn't offer a 2nd interview perhaps ??)

The club isn't a joke, but the way McCabe and his Board have managed the club is.

However, with regards to the interview process, the only thing I think they have done wrong is the length of time it is taking.

Really? Not a mistake of monumental proportions to include Dinosaur Dave in a selection process for a 'new model' and 'change of culture'?

Graham Arnold seems to think so.

And it doesn't make good reading

''I had a video conference with three directors and (football director) Dave Bassett, and to be honest I was shocked with what I heard,'' Arnold says. ''When I started talking about how I liked to play out from the back, it became clear pretty quickly that wasn't the way they thought football should be played. Sheffield United are a big club, with big support, but I couldn't see myself progressing in that kind of environment.

Apologies I've done this from my phone
WTF is bertie bassett doing here? Wasn`t "answering the phone" for alehouse mikey enough for him? Fuck off Dave.

Now loads of press reports wit the heading of Arnold labeling our club "prehistoric"

The club are now well aware of this because the Mail have contacted them and they refuse to comment

I hope the board are as embarrassed as most fans are

I also am mystified why Bassett is involved.
surely they should have used someone who has at least managed a team in the last 10 years.

Weve become a joke. Deary me it doesnt look good at all.

Does anyone want the bloody job?

I might put my CV in. Ive won a few titles on Football Manager.

That's why we are in this shit storm; his decisions were crap and that's being kind. Only thing worse was employing him in the first place and it feels we are still on the same road and the steering rack is broke.

Afraid all Arnold has done is told the fans some home truths. Clappers need to take it on board.

There's clearly some bollocks being talked somewhere along the line, unless he expects us to believe that despite being apparently in complete non-agreement about his style of play (to the extent that he was insulted enough to come out with what he has)... A style they already had an idea of before talking to him... they offered him the job anyway - on crap money and telling him he'd have to "smash the ball long" and work on set pieces.

Anyway, we might be better off without the man previously labelled "pure poison" by an Aussie who used to be employed not far from here :)

I've already stated he shouldn't have the job but where does it say anywhere that we "offered him the job anyway - on crap money and telling him he'd have to "smash the ball long" and work on set pieces."

Not seen that but as ever I stand to be corrected

I wasn't suggesting that you wanted him in the job :)

The news stories with the apparent quotes from him include:

"Forget that the financial offer in itself was quite poor", "But they just didn't seem interested when I was talking about playing a short passing game and taking the football another level up. It was about smashing the ball long and working on set-pieces... it was prehistoric stuff" and "In all honesty, I didn't have to think too long or too hard about it".

If they are the quotes, and that is the remit, then the fact that Neil Warnocks odds have plummeted today may be an indicator as to where the interview panel are now looking!

Yes, but the first part of that could have been just basic discussions about what the salary be were he offered the post.

I don't think he was offered it - and I think he's preempted the eventual appointment by saying he didn't want it anyway based on what the job entailed given his experience at interview. I think even if you consider he's just bitter, this microscope on the interview process is extremely worrying.

"Forget that the financial offer in itself was quite poor"

Not seen that - frightening.

Not the size of the offer but offering him the post.

The last few days whilst things have been quiet has me thinking that the job is still quite good based on a few posts off here.

1 Wage bill should give us 16 players on 2.5K or 20 players on 2.1K/week , that's not bad when some clubs are competing against us with players on 650/900 week.
2 Start to win and the fans will be with you.
3 Even if you don't set the league on fire if the team shows promise and the old under-performers are left out then the fans will be with you.
4 Probably the best academy in D3?

He didn't need to come out and say that but you do have to ask yourself why he has said what he said. He could have just said "Got offered the job but turned it down for footballing reasons." or "I was interviewed but didn't get offered the position." etc.

It really is the shittest job in football right now and very worrying if people are turning us down before being offered the damn job. Fuck it! Even though I wouldn't agree with the appointment just give Warnock the job because there really is no one else.

Plan Z: If Warnock turns us down then I say we all send our CV's in.

Is this the Mr Arnold that appears to be a bitter that he wasn't offered the job? Funny how we tried to go down the football route with Wilson and now we aren't interested in it.

It's strange that some believe it is always our board that is at fault in these situations.....couldn't Arnold be lying to protect his own position?
