Top 2 until Feb after a mainstay there, team in 3rd (us) on the rise throughout the season, finally overtaken on the home straight to lose out on promotion

Maybe but a difference here is I don't remember them fuckers having such a commanding gap of 13 points at some stage?

Another difference is that Bielsa sides are known for running out of steam towards the business end of seasons despite finally managing promotion in 2020. Under Hecky we're not particularly known for playing with a scintillating intensity like they did at times.

They were 10 points ahead of us after 23 games.

Hopefully we can win on Saturday and get through the burden of shite some blade are feeling. The constant comparisons and doom and gloom shite. We are blades, it’s never easy, so let’s turn up (half cut) have a sing and shout and put the last week to bed with a win!!

We are nothing like Leeds that season

Leeds had a footballing genius in Bielsa

And we have Gareth who thinks we have been playing well the last few months

Leeds had a wobble the season after too, from a decent lead, but on that occasion they got their shit together.

Everyone does. Burnley are turning out to be a bit of a freak. A REAL freak if you read into some of the data.

Jesus wept.

When even I’m bored to tears with this negativity, you can be sure there’s too much negativity on this board.

Now your just been negative about other peoples negativity

I suppose im now been negative about you been negative about negativity who knows

All i know is we will be negative if we dont perform against watford

Two negs don’t make a pos….

This negativity is horrendous. We need to be helping the team on. Get the lane rocking again. Win our home games and we are as good as up that takes us to 82 points boro would need to have a hell of a run to catch us and that’s assuming we pick up 0 points away from home

We shouldnt be looking down at the table they are the chasing pack, termed as such for a reason. 2nd we are look up, be positive, winagainst Watford.

No not the same.

Not that the same outcome can't happen.

Leeds weren't just good that first half season they were the best team in the league till then.

We then went on a great run from boxing day and Leeds had a less impressive run but still overall not bad.

For me it's more comparable for Burnley Jan onwards messing up and us overtaking them with presumably Boro taking 2nd.

Overall though we got 89 PTS that season. Leeds 83 PTS. That's what is important.

Can we get another 28 PTS? Or 8 wins 4 draws 2 defeats or better?

Important we don't lose sight of the fact this is a 46 game season.

Maybe that sounds daft.

It just so happens that we have 3 games we could legitimately lose across the course of the season.

Likewise we've just had a series of result where we didn't lose since November 8th, I think. So there will be ups and downs.

Same with Boro. They got a good win against us. Doubt winning either side of that against a completely hapless QPR - not the disciplined one under Beale - and a Cardiff in free-fall makes their results all that special. Makes for a good story, but let's see if they can win at WBA now they are no longer under the radar and against a team that also has good individuals and a formidable home record. If they concede twice as many shots in target like they did against us, maybe they won't get so lucky with such an over the odds conversion rate.

Plenty of time. I'd still say we have the better last 6 fixtures and will be clear of them at the end by 6 points or so.

Yh prefer this comparison
Didn't it go down to the last game of the season?

If we have a chance of dropping into the play-offs on the last day of the season, I can only see one outcome.

This is exactly what I was thinking the other day. I'd much rather be the chasers than the chasees.

However like we did, Boro must have a few below par performances in the locker and I'm sure there will be twists and turns along the way.

If we had a four point gap between 2nd while sitting 3rd at this stage we'd be full of confidence and excitement instead we are a bag of nerves, fingers crossed eyes clamped shut hoping we can hold on by our fingertips.

ARE WE LEEDS

Are we leeds, are we leeds, are we leeds… 🎶

Sorry that’s all I could think of when I read the thread title

By a weird quirk of fate, we are currently bang on the same wins, draws, losses and points that Leeds were on after 35 matches that season.

We do, however, have a better goal difference (+25 vs their +21) and, most importantly, a gap back to Boro in 3rd of 7 points, as opposed to the 2 points they had over us at that stage.

Or to put it another way...

We are currently 2 points and a league position better off than our last promotion-winning side, with a 7 point gap to 3rd as opposed to a 2 point gap to make up.

To match our own final W/D/L total from that season we need 6 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat from the last 11. I don't think we're quite going to get that, BUT, we are still in a much better position than Leeds were going into the run-in.

Their run-in form was bang average: 5 wins, a draw, and 5 defeats from the last 11. I'm pretty sure we're going to do better than that, AND we have more of a cushion to the chasing pack after last night.

Still completely fuckupabble, but draw your own conclusions.
