Yes I do believe that Adkins has studied his football but it's starting to look more and more like he may have over studied it and is now trying to play Weirs football where you try to study all the spontaneity out of the game by insisting the team play football by numbers.
He keeps saying it's a simple game while at the time over complicate it by trying to play the same kind of formula Football that Weir tried to play..
It looks great on the chalk board but if the other team hasn't read the script and plays the old fashioned direct game your in trouble....
It didn't work back then and it's not going to work now, not in this division anyway..

Unfortunately we lack the pace, height and aggression to play direct and lack the ability to pass the ball forwards through tight areas.

At Peterborough, I thought we played a mixture of possession football, while also firing the ball down the channels for SAS to hold up, or JCR to chase - and we looked a really good team. Since then, it doesn't really seem to have come off, and it does at times look like possession for possessions sake, and more likely to lead us into trouble than really threaten.

There's probably also a lack of confidence at the minute, so doing the risky ball, or bit of skill, which you need to unlock a side isn't being done.
