Are we actually as skint as some fans claim?

We aren't signing anyone for a decent amount of money no way

Why would the prince spend a penny when he is in the process of selling the club

The bloke re-mortgaged his house to fund the club it baffles me that there's people who want him to stay

Looking at the list, why is Billy Sharp so low down. He should be mid table up with Basham and based on goals scored much higher still.
At least worth £25k

I hope we weren't paying Hourihane anywhere near 42k per week
Wolves probably are and we will only pay a prportion (guessing). That said it shows our problem in attracting players when we are not paying anywhere near that figure stated for him ie the mat key rate

I don't think we're skint at all. But, as Blades, we're used to being skint. So it's second nature (or first nature) to assume we are. I'm not convinced that list of figures is right, mind. I heard Verrips was on close to treble that quoted figure. And Brewster... My god. That's how Wilder spent our money is it?

I hope the insurance company are paying JOCs wages.
There was a 2.5 m insurance payment in the accounts ,could be joc,s wages

Thing the insurance related to a claim for loss of business due to covid.
JOC is still contracted to us ( or at least no announcement to the contrary ) and as such nothing would be paid yet if it were due

Oh woe is me, fucking Blades, no fucking money, no signings in the last ten years, wages capped at £50 a year, never been promoted, empty stadium week in week out, worst pitch in the world, hotel has a leaky roof, Shirecliffe only has a rancid well to supply water, dog shit on the changing room floor, car park has potholes, ticket office is wank, beer's warm, pies are cold, Gary Sinclair's a cunt, £3 a programme.... fucking hell, have I missed owt?

Listen, the only reason half these fucking numb skulls moan and groan is because the owner wasn't born in Sheffield. Get McCabe back, he knew the score and never let the club go wanting 🤪😱😱😱🤪

"Gary Sinclair's a cunt" - genuinley laughed out loud at this. Spat drunk all over and then needed to explain why to a Mrs who hasn't got a clue anyway 🤣🤣🤣

Never have I read such a succinct and historically correct version of our club in so few words.

Well done!

These figures are likely base salaries without goal bonuses etc

It’s the Football Gods again.

“Been a couple of weeks since we dashed the Blades hopes again boys. Let’s wind them up over wages, transfer values thus time”

So Hecky says he has 6 or 7 vacancies to fill.I wish him luck.
I’ve an awful feeling Hecky is going to get stiffed by the owners and come the end of August, it will be the usual, fax machine, didn’t have the right permit, agents messing us about, excuses.
If they haven’t the money or are reluctant to spend, because they want out, a little honesty to both Hecky and the fans wouldn’t go amiss.
I hope, I’m wrong, but in the end it’s the hope that gets ya.

You know, we’re nearly as unlucky as liverpool

That list is wrong.

MGW was on £45k a week at United (although how much of that we were actually paying I don’t know).

Take the caption below with a pinch of salt because it came from Google but I think the idea that we are 'skint' is probably a bit off given how much we have trimmed from our wage bill.

£169,000 per week saving just from releasing the players we didn't need or couldn't keep. If we shift out the extra £25k per week for Verrips and Burke that actually gets us close to £200,000 per week in savings. That's a decent chunk of money. The club 'seems' to be self-sustaining so it could mean that we do something with that rather than having to use it to balance the books. If we get some decent players in early I can see us having a go this year if we keep hold of our best players.

When I see these tables and the obscene amount of money these average players earn , I want to go outside and shoot my self

TBF they're not average. They'd probably all single handedly piss all over you and your whole 5-a-side team.

But I get your point. It's a crazy industry. A lot goes to tax, on the plus side. A fair bit to charity as well.

Oil executives, Bank big wigs, influencers etc etc are more sickening, in my opinion.

Our wage bill was around 60 million in the Prem. It's believed to have more than halved after contracted relegation wage reductions (50 %) , player sales, loans out and expiration of contracts. Of course we loaned in some additions to bump it up a degree. I feel that 30 million seems a fair ballpark figure if the above is correct.
Again next season we'll have got players out and renewed others - presumably on lower terms. The loans have also gone back. I presume that figure, as it stands, has again been reduced.
My conclusion is that a wage bill of around 30 million ( give or take)shouldn't be seen as particularly onerous for a Champ club. Wages should by no means be killing us. If anything they are really conservative for a relegated former Prem club. I doubt they are top six in the Championship. See the figures below.

Where we may have pressures is on installments owed on players purchased in the Prem. This depends on how much is owed, and when it is owed by.

Ultimately, despite all the above, the question rests on how deep the owner's pockets are and how much they're willing to invest.

Brilliant

Abraham Lincoln & then Bob Dylan said

“ you can please half the people some of the time,
And some of the people half of the the time,
But you can’t please all of the people all of the time “

Trouble with Blades fans is you can never please them 🙄

But in a playoff position in that table. Probably lose again. 😡

Someone quotes one of these websites every few months. They're all bollocks.

I could make a list tomorrow, upload it on the internet as 'fact' and people somewhere would believe it.
We know mate, we know. Everyone knows that these are guesswork and not actual statistical fact, I don't think anyone here is trying to claim otherwise.

But the inescapable fact is that we have reduced our wage-bill by 6x prem wages (or reduced prem wages), that was the point I was trying to make. If last year we were okay on our accounts, we now have another 6x prem wages slots we could fill, and with players who could deliver.

We are not 'skint' - the club is being run efficiently, which should keep the accountants happy, although the fans less happy, but there is no serious money behind the club. It was established in the High Court that the Prince has no personal fortune although he has good connections.

There is also, more worryingly, a mealy-mouthed lack of ambition from the board: if you want success you need a few players of MGW quality and they demand high wages. If you are penny pinching like a 50s grocer then you will never convince the best players to play for you. They will always be 'gone to Villa' who will pay them the going rate for their services. We will only get the ones who are a gamble - untried, injury prone, or not actually that good.
