I wondered whether there was any monitoring of players’ physical condition while they are playing.

We have a few elder statesmen, and Donaldson got an injury when he stayed on after a really good debut at Sunderland. Since then both Duff and Bill are regularly pulled around 70 minutes. Leon, however, doesn’t seem to get pulled.

As they tire older players will inevitably become more susceptible to injury, as well as being slower. I’m just interested whether knowledge of their condition is taken just from data during training, or whether they generate live data from those crop top things that they wear.

Guess it won’t be long before a player comes off and the manager says - your muscle twitch rate was down, oxygen processing low and your synaptic response was slipping so we thought it best to put young Brooksy on!

A bit like F1 - or else they might have antidotes. I’ve wondered a couple of times about Leon when he’s been down injured, trainer has come on and then he’s played like a man possessed.

I always had a good slug of scotch in my half time energy drink when I was playing - didn’t make me play any better but at least I thought that I did!

All players wear GPS Vests now so everything is monited a d looked at later.
Players also timed for how many minutes they play especially after injury. A lot of care is taken now as muscle strains are very common due to the athletism of the modern game. Injuries will always happen and obviously more care is taken with older players. Clarke at 32 is obviously a very fit lad but care will be taken and has been in the past , he is a big player for us
and Wilder and Knill are getting more out of him than seemed possible long may it continue

Yeah they use the Catapult vests during the games to track HR and GPS data, so for things like fatigue, sprints, running distance etc. I wrote a fair amount about this when we first got them and then since. I'll try to dig the posts out sometime
