Approach made to McCall

OK, Macca failed at Bradford but that was his 1st managerial job.

But look at the (very harsh) stick Southgate is getting on here for failing in one out of four seasons at Boro - his first managerial job. Who's to say we can't we be Southgate's Motherwell?

I agree entirely with that, and I think Southgate actually did fairly well at Boro. Aside from anything, he was sacked after a win and was only 1 point off the top spot in the Championship! It's amazing he's not had another managerial job since really.

Nevertheless, I think McCall is the better choice of the two... and maybe overall. As much as we don't want someone who is connected to the club, I think he brings the best sort of connection and is much more proven than others after the role.

My only concern would be that he'd perhaps persist with the likes of Doyle... but then, I think Robinson would do too considering he's more than happy with players like Potter and Lowe in his teams.

We know his release clause and likely demands, McCall knows what's what at the club and the situation we find ourselves in; I think it may be an idea to lump on his appointment.

If it's anyone other than him or Robinson... or at a push Southgate, I'll be as disappointed with the club as I have been in a long time. And I've been very disappointed in very recent memory.

Sorry Houso, get ready to be disappointed!! Every time I think I can't be any more disappointed McCabe pulls another magically sad looking rabbit out of the hat and I curse myself that I have been suckered again!

What else do we judge Southgate on though? Having a big nose? Coming across as a pussy when sat aside Keane?

What else other than failing miserably in your only comparable job?Why is that harsh?

Wonder if Nicky Law will hang on in signing for someone until McCall possibly has the chance to bring him here (should he take over).

I know he's not a Blade and will have better offers in the league above, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that the lure of unfinished business and a manager who he clearly works well with (and a player he's played alongside) is very attractive.
I always thought Nicky Law was decent when he played for us. From what I remember he did well on his debut against Man Utd

Well if you count chasing Scholes shadow around the park then yes he did!

A much better player since then but to throw him in against Man Utd was a bit suicidal.

He made his club debut at Reading in League Cup.
His league debut (which is what I believe you are thinking about) was at Newcastle. His home league debut was against Bolton.
