My dad used to know a guy called Eskimo who hung around on the Kop in the 70's. He talks sometimes about some bloke called Willie Ward as well I think.

Remember running with the boys all the way back to midland station looking for away supporters, and hoping we didn't actually see any.

I was a skin, they were known as greebos back then. Good lads though.

Didn't they all used to go in the 'gypo' cafe on infirmary road 'THE CORONATION' it was called.

If I remember Eskimo was one of the Pond street mob when I was a young lad a much older lad Carl (Cat) Stevens ex Hurlfield lad used to tell me stories about them.

eskimo was some legendary type figure who ruled the kop until well into the mid 70's for all the kids like me who stood on the fence at the front..

If it's same Carl Stevens remember him well, used to be a skin.hung around together in hole in the ground. Hard bastard.

Anyone remember "wafers balmy army"? at away games they always used to start waving from the home cop just before kick off.

Eskimo was a good friend of my uncle Jimmy and they used to go to all the matche together in the early 70's. My nan told me of a story of when they went to watch us in London only for the match to be called off. They hitched their way back all they way to just outside the south Yorkshire border only for the police in a neighboring county to pick them up and take them 80-100 mile back from Yorkshire! My nan said their shoes were hanging off their feet! Years later (1993 ish) I worked at William cooks castings on the parkway. My old man worked there and he introduced me to Eskimo, because I knew he was really good friends with my uncle when they were young I thought I could get away with teasing him and calling a fat lump (I was only 17)! He duly decided to sit on me...nearly crushing the life out of me! After that he gave me a big hug and said if it wasnt for my dad and uncle Jimmy he'd av dun me!! Nice bloke - will ask uncle Jim/dad what he's up to in life now.

Don't you mean CJ s in Broomhall ,or Chattoos on Chesterfield Rd ? Had many a Red Stripe in both of them.

Cjs. Nice big blues, dancing, nice fillies. Like chattoos, bit it's just an house extension.

I played in the same team as one of the Chattoos for a few years ,unfortunately one of the offspring is now doing serious bird for post code gang involvement. CJ s was last port of call every weekend unless you trapped. A seedy recognition of defeat ,Havelock square was just round the corner if you were particularly desperate.
