The answer was Glen Keeley who scored the own goal in our 2-1 home win against Newcastle in August 1974. His brother Andy played for us from 1977 to 1979 but didnt score for us
I thought Cammack and Field were the scorers in that game.

Cammack scored but Field? I remember my dad writing his match report in his letter to me (I was at boarding school) saying that it was an own goal by Keeley. I better check laterI thought Cammack and Field were the scorers in that game.

I am pretty sure Field is recorded as scoring the other 1.
Which supports my statement about the recording of goals/own goals not being previously an exact practice prior to the stats obsession. Players would disown own goals that now they'd be given due to technical definitions.
At the start of pro football, no-one cared much as to who scored goals. A number of goals in our early games are described as being due to a "scrimmage".
Looked at Clareborough's Complete Records a hour ago and the book did record Field as one of the scorers in that Newcastle match and I hadnt known that for 40 years but looking at the programme for the home game against Man City in January, it stated that our leading scorers so far were Field 9, Dearden 9, Eddy 7 and Woody 6. Looking at the stats in the last few pages of the programme, Field wasnt recorded as being one of the scorers in that Newcastle game (Cammack was the only one) so that indicated that the other goal was an own goal, we also had an own goal (Mick Mills) for the next home game (v Ipswich) and the stats page had Field scoring two but Woody (whose shot hit the post before the ball came off Mills legs) wasnt recorded as being the other scorer in the 3-1 win against Ipswich. I am quite sure that some papers had Glen Keeley scoring the own goal in the Newcastle gameI am pretty sure Field is recorded as scoring the other 1. He got 11 league goals that season
