Anyone remember anything about: Sheffield United 7-3 Northampton 1982

Eddie Colquhoun scored two own goals for Wolves (although some papers credited the 2nd goal to John Richards) in the 2-2 home draw in December 1971.

In the 2-2 draw between Villa and Leicester in 1976, Chris Nicholl scored all the goals!

I think I remember that Wolves game.

Own goals were fairly loosely attributed prior to the Sky/FIFA stats obsession. A goal would be recorded as an own goal on MotD on saturday night, reported in various sunday papers as an own goal or from a striker and by monday had been claimed fully by a striker, but the records might perpetually show the goal attributed to both players depending on whose records you looked at.

Our 2nd goal in the 5-4 win against Brighton in Sept 1989, I dont think Deane got the final touch, same for our 1st goal at QPR in April 1991 (I think Gannon's free kick missed everyone before it went into the net). Also I am not sure if Deane touched a harmless looking Borbokis cross in the 2-2 home draw against QPR in Oct 1997

Marcus Bent claimed his goal in the 2-1 gome defeat against Bolton in Nov 1999 (I think Murphy got the final touch)

he seemed to score an own goal every other week. I'm sure he was the Wolves player that put the ball in the net most times in one season (just not mostly for his own team).

Though knowing SUFC, we're probably the only club he never scored for....

- the own goal that won the league in 1991-2, of course.

- own goals in both games against Luton in 1994-5, surely a rare feat.

Sitton's other claim to fame is to have scored 2 own goals for United - v Millwall on 25/10/80 and v Gillingham on 14/1/84. As far as I know the only other person to have done that is Paul Bodin (Swindon 27/12/94 and reading 29/3/97).

Also Mark Winstanley in our 4-0 win over Bolton in 1989 and our 4-2 defeat at Burnley in 1994.

Good one, Revolution . While I have been thinking. There is a player who played for us but never scored for us but his brother never played for us but scored an own goal playing against us. Who were the brothers?

I remember it well.

As has been said, a very rainy night and we were 6-0 up after about 65 minutes with goals from Edwards (2), MacPhail, Hatton (2) and Neville (though there was some dispute as to whether MacPhail's goal had actually crossed the line). In the Star report the next day, Tony Pritchett said that double figures looked a serious possibility at that point. However, United than sat back and Northampton pulled a couple back. However, right on 90 mins, Edwards completed his hat trick (the first for a United played since 1973), and there was still time for Keith Waugh to up end a Town player in the area and for them to score a pen to make it 7-3. I remember feeling vaguely disappointed at the end that we had not won by 8 or 9.

It was the only game Tony Kenworthy missed all season (he was suspended) and if memory serves the team was:

I too had got free tickets with school and was sat near the back of the South Stand. I kept turning round because I could see Tony Kenworthy sat in the press box at the back of the South Stand. It was the first game I had attended for 18 months. From then onwards I never missed a home game that season and became a regular attender in subsequent seasons.

News came through during the game that we were losing 2-1, much to the merriment of the home fans, this remained the score until deep into the second half. When we left just before the end it was still 2-1 but by the time we got back to the car and put the radio on Mick Trusson (I seem to recall) had scored 2 late goals to win if for the Blades. Thus completing a nice Tuesday night double as our reserves I believe won 3-1, with a hat-trick from Stewart Evans, who never made it at the Lane but went on to find fame and fortune at Rotherham and Wimbledon!

Few errors there...

We were losing 1-0 until the last 5 mins when Trusson scored 2 to steal the game at 2-1. And it was Bob Atkins who got the hat trick in the reserves win at Hillsborough.

Not only did it piss it down that night it had done so for most of the previous 48 Hours. Doubt whether it would have gone ahead today. Very comical watching players trying to stay upright and, in certain areas of the pitch, the ball not bouncing. Remember leaving the ground feeling Uplifted by the shoreline and vague sense of comedy in equal measure.

that sounds about right... maybe even later (I remember, by my watch time was already up and we were still 1-0 down and I'd given up, and convinced myself I'd never go to an away game again......but my watch may have been out a bit).

Correct. We then scored four more at home against Northampton a few days later. Hence the confusion.

They followed that up with four more at Brentford and three at home to Newcastle in the cup. What a great team they were to watch!

6-1. Deane 3 in 1st half, Agana 3 in 2nd half in front of our lowest league gate of the season. One of my favourite ever games.

I was sat in the Bramall Lane upper tier that night.

It was raining all through then 1st half and Northampton were a really sorry outfit that didn't seem up for it.
Also I remember just before half time there was a torrential downpour like a monsoon and the pitch was incredibly muddy with pools of water forming everywhere. I even thougtht the match might get abandoned.

We were 5-0 up at half-time but it should have been more, we missed loads of chances.
A funny moment was when Bob Hatton was clean through with just the keeper to beat.
He rounded the goalie and slotted the ball towards an empty net at the Kop end.
The crowd cheered a certain goal but then the ball got stuck in a pool of water in the 5 yard box and didn't quite cross the line, their defender got back and cleared it with Hatton amazed he didn't score.

I remember at half time many Blades were thinking that we could easily get double figures.
Northampton were so poor and didn't seem to be trying. Thankfully the rain wasn't that heavy in the 2nd half.

However we didn't show the same effort, although we quickly made it 6-0
Then we just went through the motions, they pulled a goal back 6-1, then 6-2, then think it was 6-3.

I remember the ground ful of booing and complaints. We'd let them back in the match and now Northampton looked a decent side. Think we scored near the end to make it 7-3

But the weird thing about the match is that most of the Blades leaving the match weren't happy
And it almost felt like we'd lost because we had a genuine chance of scoring 10 goals but totally took our foot off the gas.

The answer was Glen Keeley who scored the own goal in our 2-1 home win against Newcastle in August 1974. His brother Andy played for us from 1977 to 1979 but didnt score for us
