Because I hate to say it but I am. I reckon Chezzy are smelling blood and I expect them to be more direct under Saunders

He will have analysed the Gillingham goals by now and realise that a few decent balls into our box may cause havoc. Hopefully Howard and Edgar will be an improvement on last week but it's hard to say.

Early days I know but I reckon a poor performance coupled with a loss and the mood will turn very sour before the season has even got going.

Of course, I could be worrying get about nothing.A solid defensive show and a couple of decent goals might be on the cards.

We're going to win I reckon. I think we'll concede, but probably win 3-1 in a much improved perfomance and we can move on from that shambles last week

(I hope)

I've calmed down from the Gills game now.
It's water under the bridge/just a bad day at the office/wakeup call/<insert clichéd phrase here>.
I think we'll win handsomely v Chesterfield. We have to!!...it's our first competitive game on the new pitch right? :)
Up The Blades

No.
All you can do is get behind the team vocally and hope they improve sufficiently to get the three points and send everyone home/to the pub happy ( well, happy-ish ;) )

No. Let them smell blood and go for the win, better for us that they do than try to keep it tight and nick a goal.
No point worrying anyway, I can't do anything to change things. Only worry about what you can affect.

I'm worried about the roadworks on the M1 causing me to get delayed on my way to the match. But it seems like I have been worrying about this forever. Which is coincidentally, the same length of time I have been worrying about the next football match we are due to play.

More info please, HB....I'm heading up to Sheffield from Leicester.

Chessy have been stripped of most of their best players over the summer & many see them as relegation candidates this time round. They've just been beat in the league cup by a side that scraped its place in the league last year, holding on by their fingertips.

Nah, whatever our evident failings right now, I'm not gonna spend time worrying about Chessy.

Am just on about the continuing roadworks that seem to go forever past Derby and all up to the Chesterfield junction... It's usually a bit if a rush on a Saturday as HB Jnr plays sport. But hoping to get off a bit earlier this weekend.

It's abundantly clear that we're a work in progress.

I went to a couple of pre-season games and I thought we were raring to go.

Gillingham was a real surprise, and from early on. There were a few people behind me equally mystified; they decided it must be the kit :-).

My concern is scapegoating. If McEveley misplaces a pass or Howard fails to connect with a punch then there are vocal elements just waiting to have a go. Collins might get some flak. Who knows? Any of this harms the chances of the team.

Adkins has said we need to move the ball quicker, I wonder if the players are still playing at Clough pace.

Three times now I've heard the comment about how we've created chances but not scored - maybe we need a striker ;-)

We could lose on Satdi, but I wouldn't necessarily be worried about the result.

Is there progress? Do we know what we need to work on?

Bergen has put together some very good posts on this.

Cheers, will bear that in mind. I normally come off at J29 and go via Chesterfield. Might be quicker staying on the M1 to J33. Not sure.

And some word of roadworks at Junction 24 this weekend, but not sure if that's actually on the junction. Safe journey HB, look out for the silver Astra with a Blades badge in the rear window (northbound it will have two optimistic looking fans in it, southbound... well, experience suggests something different)

As WHF says , we may well have to be patiant . However how many dejavu times have we said that . The manager and players have a lot to prove on Saturday , after another diabolical performance at Gillingham last Saturday.

Adkins and the players have to be focussed and committed on Saturday . If they are not , IMO they never will be

. Can see a high scoring game , which we will win . Chestrfield will be most dangerous in the first half , as they tore Barnsley apart . Blades players have a lot to prove on Saturday , but a loss or draw , will not be the end of the world.

We may have to get used to that we are a team in working progress , and see some suprising results against us on the way . In saying all that , its up to Adkins and the players , to show they are committed to the club shirt . If not they will have to go , whoever it is .

Dean Saunders will want a happy return , but i have a gut feeling we will win , and spoil his day.

Worried about playing any team in the third tier is concerning, Wilson, Weir and Clough appear to have started this theme by all means respect the opposition but worry that's bizarre. The manager/staff and players are paid a good wedge of money to represent SUFC and if they cant deal with the expectations of the fans they shouldn't be here. I am tired of the excuse that so called smaller clubs raise their game against the mighty SUFC, five years in this division is long enough, and looks as if we are being in danger of being as an established 3rd tier club for the foreseeable future.

A possitive 3.1 win and the after affects on that first howler will be a distant memory, onwards and upwards...

I love the eternal optimism of football fans...

I've no reason to believe we'll win.

I hope we do. But I think we'll lose, or possibly draw - but even that's based on thin immediate evidence and rather weighty long term evidence of how we got to where we are now .... which has spawned a tendency to be naturally pessimistic with respect to United. Plus, I think it's going to be about 10 games before we see a real development of Adkins team where we can make reasonable predictions and during which time I tend to think we'll have a very mixed bag of results.

However, hoping my gut is wrong and the optimists are right. Roll on Satdi.

If ( I was going to write "when" but opted for optimism) we go a goal down I hope the fragile confidence of several of our players doesn't shatter and they discover that they do have some backbone and some fight because if they go behind I suspect one or two of them are going to get a rough ride from the crowd. I don't see us scoring a hatful. If we can play to our strengths (which isn't defence) then I think we can get a result, let Chesterfield dictate the game and we could well get rolled over.

Worried?! Worried about visiting Bramall Lane for the first game of the season, decent weather, and not a clothes shop or retail park in sight? Your kidding right?!

I love my wife and kids, but my god I'm desperate for my Saturdays back visiting the best place on earth.

I wouldn't be worried if we were playing Real Madrid, Chelsea, Chesterfield or a Death Row XI.

Let it be Saturday now.

I'm not worried about defeat to Chesterfield, as I have seen us beaten at home by teams such as Gillingham, Fleetwood Town, Crewe Alexandra, Yeovil Town, Hartlepool United and a few others of that ilk during the last few seasons, so a defeat at Chesterfield will be no great surprise, and holds no terrors for me any more as I'm accustomed to this type of embarrassing and humiliating defeat.

But still we have McCabe posturing as a man who pretends to care about the club, our saviour and benefactor The Poundland Prince will be busy doing whatever he is busy with back in Saudi but no doubt will be following events on Blades player, leaving everything in the more than capable hands Jim Phipps when he is not too busy putting out the sound bites on social media that the brainwashed all lap up. We weave got positive Nigel telling us all to be #UnitedTogether, and not forget that poor soul Neil Collins who cares so much about the the club he did a little cry last night when interviewed after the match, poor little lamb.

My prediction

SUFC 0 Chesterfield 2

What you say is always at the back of my mind , all things Blades . However if we are not optimistic , we might as well jack it in , and the last one out turn the flood lights off .

Tbh I think the 10 games before we start to show our potential is probably right,if we had sorted our defensive problems out sooner in pre season then we would have been good to go I believe but this has set us back however as a football fan and supporting Sheffield United for 30 od years I have to be optimistic otherwise I may as well pack up.Maybe in Edgar we have a quality defender that we have missed since morgs and with another bully in defence hopefully shortly arriving (hopefully someone in the mould of a Rob Jones when he was at scunny a 6f.7 enforcer we should be solid.Sorry for all the optimism guys but I have to be its been a long wait for this season and I've missed it utb..

positive pessimism... that's my approach.... hope and dread in equal measure, and unparalleled joy at the positive outcomes while a shrug of resigned and expected disappointment at any defeat.

Totally agree, we're an easy team to beat - once teams know we're weak in the air.
I do think teams used to fear playing us, especially at BDTBL but now, everyone comes feeling they can get at least a point.

To put the other side we went effectively 4 down at Swindon and were within touching distance of an equaliser.

We didn't give up that day.

But I know what you mean.

We were weak in the air last week. We've signed a centre half at last to deal with that. Might play into our hands if they go all Route One on us.

We'll be shite at something else this week.

Getting overrun in midfield, and squandering chances when we do get them is what it says in my crystal ball.

Long term I see us rising up the League though.
