Anyone else think that's a good result long-term?

It has been mentioned that when our inevitable defeat game, it might change our approach to matches and stop this negative 'let's not lose' type football?

We have gone away with a negative approach again, and been found out. Hopefully Wilson will realise that this cannot continue, and that playing a Left Back (A bad left back) on the left wing is not the way you win matches.

Come on Danny, now show us you want to win games, starting with Stevenage who have just been hammered at home.

Yep Wilson's hand is forced now with injuries.

He has got to mix the team up for the next game.

Not really. We've been negative all season and almost every game we'v played could have gone either way. Resolute defending has ensured we stayed unbeaten. Not sure we have the players to change it. Crying out for some pace and players able to run at defenders. 37% possession at a team who weren't even in the play off positions is poor.

The second half team, which may well be the one that starts next week, isn't much more attacking than the one that started the game. I suspect Wilson may try to get a loan player in this week though.

To win games you have to score a goal. Maybe two even!
Not managed one in the last two matches....
Something needs to change.

Not sure we got"found out" we lost due to a last minute penalty. For all their Pearson how much did long have to do?

Maybe so would have been nice to see Gallagher back.

Not sure we can get Matty Phillips back :)

Sorry new phone, all their possession I mean.I do think we need to at least create one chance tho

Think the problem is that we dont look like scoring in most of the games. Today has been coming for a while. We were fortunate to beat Walsall and Pompey and fortunate to get a draw at Swindon.
Yes, there is a few draws we should have won but there are quite a lot of other games we could easily have lost so it is a surprise we have gone this long without losing.

We hve scored 1 goal from open play in 6 league games and barely had a shot on goal in most games (outside of penalties). That is not good enough. The defence has been excellent but can't keep doing it, week after week to cover for the complete lack of quality or even attempt to attack the other way.

We are crying out for 2 or 3 quality midfield/wide players but if we carry on with the likes of McAllister, Williams and Flynn (who are mid table League 1 players at best) then things will continue in the same vain and I think we will do well to make the playoffs. That is not a knee jerk reaction to today; I just feel if Blackman does not score a worldy I cannot honestly see where we create or score a goal from. However despite this tactially I have been very disappointed with Wilson who has not done enough to try and win games. If we win 1 of 2 this week we get 3 points (rather than 2 we set out for; in end we get a very poor 1 from 6).

Big test next week, 2nd v 3rd with Stevenage smarting from a thrashing; we have to attack at home and with a few injuries could be a huge game as there is now nothing between 6th/7th and 2nd and Tranmere are pulling away with 2 home games to come now (granted we have same).

No, it's a crap result. Not getting beat at MK Dons would have been an excellent result, keeping a clean sheet would have continued sending out the right signals and to lose in the manner we did was sickening. No defeat is good and as said before, losing to a top 6 team is a real bummer.

Despite our great run we need to be more adventurous, we look to have got the back line sorted so now we need to push on and start spanking teams. It shouldn't take a defeat to make that happen. We need to get at teams more and we need to start punishing them, today is a point in case. You can only go for so many 0 - 0 games, time to step it up Danny, no more sickeners like this please.

But that is the point of the OP, and why i stated 'long-term' it may be beneficial. I just think we needed to lose a game to give the team a kick up the arse. Losing a game is never good, unless you learn from your errors. This is a sh*te result if he doesn't change anything in the next match. However, if we go out against Stevenage and really take the game to them, losing today may have had positive effects for the rest of the season.

no its a horrible result.

1) we don't have the players to change how we play.
2) were a bit crap, like everybody else in the league
3) it could damage confidence
4) mk diddlies are probably going to be major challengers come the end of the season
5) because were a bit crap, we cant afford to piss away any points

oh and 6) if we slip down league, even just a few points off 2nd place, it will reduce our chances of kitson wanting to stay (if he's still alive, i dunno) and it could make our board throw a wobbler in january. if we were top in january it may have persuaded the board to have a mini-dabble on a midfielder of two. if were 6th they may think ah feck it were doomed anyway lets flog a few more players and give up.

But do you honestly believe if we continue to play with the same team and tactics all season we will get promoted?

A tough loss DW had to deal with two forced subs in the 1st half he used his last with 15 minutes to go quite brave of him.
It would have been good point if not for the inexperience of McAllister in the 90th minute pulling down Balanta who was heading away from goal .

We're a professional outfit paid to be professional, not such that we need a defeat to get us to the level of professionalism required to get promoted. There's no guarantee that this result will change anything performance wise, there's nothing to suggest that a last minute penalty defeat means that we should change anything. Nothing matters apart from points on the board, we found that out last season so be honest, there's never anything to be gained by dropping 3 points, we need to improve by all means but we need to do that while we're picking up points and not losing matches that we shouldn't be losing.

We don't have the players to change things too much, we don't have a bank of coaches who could vary what we do so please don't expect a football revolution when you're working with all that we have. If we miss out by a point or two come May then I think we'll have our answer regarding todays result, bit like throwing the games against the vermin away last season. We didn't come back stronger from that and losing to them should have put a real rocket up our arses.

His refusal to take risks in getting us promoted will, most likely, eventually cost us promotion.

He won't change and neither will he innovate. He's a lower league manager with a lower league football team. All the signs point to a lower league future.

Go on, Danny. Prove me wrong.

That my friend is the nail squarely hit on the head. The problem for me is that we have no means of changing anything. No cash, a bored board, a very limited squad and a one dimensional manager. Not a dig at Wilson per se, he is what he is and has done well with the constraints he's had to work with. Don't know where the spark will come from though as I can't see anyone in this squad who can change things enough to get us really firing in games, and that stands against shite sides too which is worrying.

Football and sport in general is littered with negative results and performances that were later seen to be watershed moments in turning fortunes around and sparking changes of direction.

Obviously impossible to tell how it'll affect us, if at all but clearly 'bad results' in sport can sometimes turn out good.

All lost since the summer - this is why we have full-backs on the wing and hardly any shots on goal; anyone expecting a revolution any time soon... It ain't going to happen. Realistically any massive change in approach will come in January IF we sign anyone, otherwise it's sit it out until May and see where it gets us.

Today's result has been waiting to happen all season I'm sorry to say. tbh we have been fortunate it has taken so long to come, this lack of creativity and goals will cost us come the end of the season without a doubt but I can't see much chance of changing things if we cant even afford to bring in goalkeeper cover. Seems to me the only way forward is to use the young kids out wide certainly playing a so called left back in midfield is not the answer, today most crosses into our penalty area came from that side. Even the centre pair of Doyle and McDonald are poor this term.
The kids can't be no worse surely ? as it is in 180 mins this week we have had less efforts on goal than you have fingers on one hand. The back four cannot be expected to carry the rest of the team for the rest of the season one mistake or dodgy decision means a defeat, btw that team who couldn't keep it going are back to 5pts ahead of the rest and keep an eye on Bournmouth and Preston who seem to be starting to get their acts together finally. We are in a good position but I still say it could be a long hard season even considering how shite this years teams are.

Of course there is always the possibility that now the players have that "unbeaten" monkey off their backs, they could start playing with a little more freedom.

  • 30 first team players.
  • All signed (on) by the current management.
  • Biggest budget in the division.

The full backs on the wing are playing there as a tactical choice, or we have planned rather poorly.

Good point, but worth noting that the 30 players signed on will earn, in total, probalbly only twice as much as the 4 players lost in the summer.

Also worth noting that despite the unimpresssive nature of our play, we are in an automatic promotion spot.

Don't you think he would have played Gallagher on the wing instead of a full back, if he'd been allowed to sign him?
I'm not sure where you get 30 first team players from. I would say we have 16 Senior players and 14 prospects.

I really don't get it, we didn't bring in a new keeper, we've sent Chapell out on loan and we still can't get a winger on loan?
