Anyone care that we weren't in FA Cup today?

I love the FA Cup and we've had some memorable encounters over the years. For the greater good, though, in our push to get out of this league, I'm okay with us not being in round 3 (for this season at least).

we can win the cup next year , historically championship clubs have managed it , league one club never got to a final so was sensible not to be clogging up our season

far more rewarding getting 3 good points in what was a potentially difficult away game and making us look further away for bolton

the last time we didn't qualify for round 3 of the cup was the 1981/82 we lost to Altrincham ,that season we were div 4 champions on 96 points sir keith bagged 36 goals .something similar would be nice.
The [3-0 ?] defeat at Altrincham was embarrassing, but in the grand scheme of things that season, it was a small price to pay.

Heh!!

Wait a minute.......

I was hauled over the coals for suggesting that we throw the cup in the bin this year because it would cause a backlog of fixtures, and promotion was the most important event.

Which is exactly what will happen to Bolton already six points adrift (with a game in hand) but a replay to fit in as well.

You bunch of turncoats....................................

Well observed.

It feels a bit weird not being in the 3rd round.I dont think anybody gives a shit this season, we all know what the priority is. UTB

I wanted to be in the third round, but playing yesterday and winning softens the blow.

Cup runs are a pleasant distraction from our (previous) dull league competitions. I did enjoy the recent good cup runs including memorable moments such as reaching the semis, Aston Villa, Spurs and Southampton of late. Would I swap similar Cup runs for winning the league this season? NO, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!!!!

Absolute godsend we have no cups to piss around in. Competitions we either can't win where the PL giants ultimately clean up or piss pot comps no one gives a toss about.

That filthy lot have just crashed out losing 3-0 against 10 men. Thay don't care though apparently because they can concentrate on finishing mid-table.

Realise the BBC are trying frantically to generate interest in it, but it's nothing at all like it used to be.

Yeah, if you're still in there, you take it & go for the ride. But if not, it's completely meh.

How about the powers that be ask for the Bristol Rovers midweek game to be moved to that 4th Round weekend, like what Southend did,for the game just past.

All it requires is Bristol City/Fleetwood to be drawn away in the next round,or Bristol City lose the reply and then they can go to Villa for the scheduled game on that day, providing they lose at Spurs 2-0 down atm.

Rather get a 4-2 league win and three points than lose or have to have a replay in the cup
Also I see this week is crapatrade trophy matches some 2nd round and some 3rd round. Really pleased we have a blank week and not involved in this as well.

No, they are playing Swindon on the 28th!

The smartest move of Chris wilders Sheffield United managerial career was to play a weakened side v Bolton

If we do go up this season then that will be the pivotal moment for me

The demise of the FA Cup is being hastened by ludicrous decisions like the BBC making Cardiff v Fulham a 11.30 am kick off. On Sunday morning. Crowd? 5,199. And Wimbledon whingeing about their game v Sutton not being the live match last Friday, 'romance of the cup' blah, blah. Yes, I'm sure people tuning in to see a 0-0 draw between two nothing teams would have wished they'd watched Corrie instead.

While a good cup run is entertaining, the further you go the more of a pisser it is when you're knocked out.

Still, Could be worse. The next round of the Checkatrade Trophy is this week...

I miss the excitement of 3rd round day. But , I think this year the focus needs to be on promotion.

Also the fact that we aren't having to stump up money for FA cup matches maybe allows more of us to travel to away games and add extra support to the blades. How many of the 1500 would have been there for a midweek game at Southend?

A wendy fan at work seemed to care that we were out of the cup, namely by asking on Friday, "Who've you got in the cup this weekend?" with a sly grin on his face.

He's noticeably quiet today, for some reason.
