His 6 issues for the club to address in 2017

I don't agree with a Director of Football appointment. If it aint broke don't fix it.

This one I do agree with:

Launch a protection racket: Nineteen years ago, Chelsea launched a pitch owners scheme which means its shareholders, or in other words the fans, own the freehold to Stamford Bridge and the club’s naming rights. Who knows what the future holds at Bramall Lane but, by following suit, United could ensure they are not left vulnerable to the whims of hostile property developers or the empty pockets of a future owner whose motives might not be the same as Kevin McCabe’s.

Not much difference between Chelsea & Sheffield United.

In fact, i've often thought Abbeydale Road, London Road were similar to Kensington High Street, the Exeter Street flats did remind very much when I was working on Chelsea Harbour and who cannot see the similarity between Prince Saudi Man & Roman Abramovich.

That man's a journalistic genius. Surely a New Year knighthood for services to ............... is on the cards?
 
I've had a quick scan through and agree with what you said on the DOF - don't try to fix something that isn't broke.

I agreed that we should be doing more for players of the past. Always said we should be doing more to appreciate former great players. TC should have a stand named after him or a statue up for starters.
 
James Shield has had a fair bit of criticism on here recently, a lot to do with the regurgitated articles we see that offer no 'news' as such.

Credit where it is due though, this article has had some thought. Not sure I agree with a few ideas - a matchday crèche??? or director of football. However I agree that more can be done to honour past players and naming a stand after TC would go down great with the fans.
 
How about we / us ''the people who don't get paid for writing about Sheffield United FC'' come up with our own list of ideas that we / us ''the people who don't get paid for writing about Sheffield United FC'' would like to see ''our club'' adopt in the next decade?

LOL is one of them a matchday creche, seriously because I might start reading his writing again just to have a laugh at that. Let me have a stab at it in his style:

"What does every big club have in common? Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, et. al? Well, they all have excellent matchday childcare facilities. If Sheffield United are to join this elite at the top of England's football table, then surely we must find room in the South Stand for a mini slide and ballpit. Just use that room next to the museum no-one's ever seen the inside of. The Premier League beckons."

Biggest hero of my childhood years, but I agree with Bert on this one. Great as TC was as a player, there are others who achieved far more that the club has ignored for too long. I know I'm a bit of campaigner for it, but that man over there <<<<< deserves the recognition more.

Yup, it's not fashionable to credit James Shield, but I'm with him on most of these proposals.
 
For all the stick James Shield gets there are some good ideas.
Certainly the one about the Freehold.
For all of his faults McCabe is a Blade and for me he's always had the clubs best intrest at heart (some bad decisions and bad luck).
But there will come a time when he calls it a day.
Now we can all dream about wealthy owners taking over and splashing the cash. But the chances of them being Blades is slim, and for every Man City or Chelsea there is a Aston Villa, Coventry, Charlton, Portsmouth, Blackpool, Cardiff, Bolton etc.
I'm still not entirely convinced by the tuna man at S6 ether.

Director of football.......

That was the job we offered Robson, and I think he would have been good at it, expensive but very good at it, nobody can deny he could attract excellent players to the club..... shame that he couldn't do anything with them other than stare at them trying to work out why there was two of each player....
 
The original agreement in 1854 was that eight and a half acres of land were leased from the Duke of Norfolk, who owned a considerable amount of land in Sheffield at the time. No idea if that's still the case.
 
I agree with this, ' Sheffield United will enter the new year...well placed to mount a serious challenge for the Championship next season. And so do not need any sporting advice from me.'

Although reading it back I thought it was this season we were trying to crack it.
 
A creche at the lane .................................. what a fuckin knobhead ................................ doesn't he know parents can't let their offspring more than 10 feet away from the car? Where would they park when dropping them off?
 
Depends on what powers a director of football has, if its a figure head like Derek dooley then why not? If I was in charge I would be asking the manager for his thoughts, Dave Bassett would be a good choice, knows and respects Wilder, loved by the fans, synonymous with the club, and would have the clubs interests at heart, if he can help Wilder in any other areas so much the better.

I know a club who offer both.
Doesn't seem to hurt them financially.

Sponsored & Non are both the same price too.

It also goes without saying that all the children's sizes should be sponsor free too.

I'll add a personal aspect, I've not bought a United shirt with any business on, ever.
Nor have any of the clan. Big clan too.
