I replied to a photo on Facebook yesterday saying that I do not think the player in red and white striped shirt looked like Ernest Jackson (from the photos I have seen of Ernest over the years) and I got an arrogant response from the photo owner accusing me that I never admit to be wrong (and accusing me of other things too!) and he is 100% certain that the player is Ernest Jackson. After doing a bit of digging in google I am now confident that the photo is of Chelsea v Sunderland in October 1950 (Trevor Ford's debut) and the player who was supposed to be Ernest Jackson is Arthur Hudgill. I need someone who knows Sunderland players in 1940s and 1950s to confirm that it is a Sunderland player

Hmmmm ..tricky one this,Ernest and Arthur were rumoured during the 50s to be brothers who were split up by their parents divorce,and one went with their mother and one with their father,and lost contact with each other .
Apparently,they were very similar looking,so this may be the confusion !
There was a documentary about this on BBC 4 a few months ago.and one of the family appeared on Jeremy Kyle appealing for information, a few weeks ago.
Heir hunters on BBC1 were also making enquiries..hope this helps !

If this is the same Arthur Hudgill or Hudgell, it doesn't tie in with the theory that he and Ernest were brothers as the Arthur Hudgell on that website was born in London.

Do you have a copy of the photo in dispute?

Worked with Paul Lemon for about 7 years.
He played for Sunderland and ended up his career at Chesterfield
 
Ernest Jackson is on the left (Albert Cox is the other player). Am in touch with a Sunderland Historian at the mo

The Blades didnt wear these socks during the 1947-48 season when Ernest Jackson played at Stamford Bridge and he didnt play at Stamford Bridge in 1948-49 season (we were relegated in 1949)

Got the below message from a Sunderland historian today

It may be Arthur Hudgell. It certainly looks very like him and he did play at Chelsea on 28 10 50.


I’ve sent the picture to a colleague but he is away on holiday at the moment and by the time he returns I’ll have gone on holiday myself. If I subsequently get any further confirmation on this I’ll email you.

Ive got to admit silent,ive never seen you write anything insulting ever and i don't think i will see it in the near future either,so to read what that twat put is ridiculous.He sounds like an all balls and no nob sort of bloke.
 
Thanks for the advices. I have reported the message to Facebook. I do not think it is right that the page claims that it is a "community" page making it sound that SUFC has been providing the photos to him to publicise on Facebook and then this person behaves as if he is a tyrant. He got angry when I said the middle player in the photo below is not Joseph Richardson (I didnt tell him that it was Bobby Rooney who made 15 1st team appearances for us). He didnt like my reply and deleted it!

I assume it's the same person who does the @SUFCimages Twitter account?

I like the photos he tweets, but he has posted a couple of opinions that made me wonder… Time to unfollow methinks.

Yes, the same one but I dont know who he is. I did see a strange spat on twitter between him and Karl Colley some months ago. I do not have a twitter account so I have not followed anyone. Not sure if the opinions you are talking about are available to read if you are not a follower/or dont have a twitter account. Yes, the photos are interesting, just that he dislikes my suggestions when it comes to identifying players!

A shame as they post some decent pictures although I may have to unfollow as well.

Can't stand arrogant twats like that when Silent was only asking them a question.
