As City are rumoured to be after Bellingham this pushes both players down the pecking order at City.

If promoted I think we should try we might get Dole over the line!

Every chance of reloaning mcatee to aid his development and strong possibility they would sell doyle perhaps on a deal like kean bryans where they have first refusal at a set fee so in effect a loan but only if they want him back

McAtee's next step would probably be a foreign loan or use him a bit themselves as they like their players to develop in different settings, but still here at a higher level might count as a different setting

Division above is a different setting, the reason I think we’d struggle is City wants McAtee to play possession based football which he has this year with us, but wouldn’t next year.

Ask nicely and it may be granted we can keep them

Ask and it shall be given

You've got to consider the new loan rules coming in; City have already started doing things differently by selling players and adding buyback clauses rather than sending them on more loans. They did it with Bazunu, Lavia, Larios and Edozie last summer, who all joined Southampton.

I'd expect Doyle to be available for something like £10m should we go up and if he wants to come. The buyback option means he can join us without giving up on his dream of making it at City, it protects us as we'd get a good price if the buyback was activated and it protects City as they can 'send' their players wherever they like including many to the same club as they've done with Southampton above.

McAtee does have higher potential but history shows that City's academy players tend to go one way or the other. Either a series of loans before leaving, or slowly drip-fed into the first team. I can't think of a single example of an academy player who has become a part of their squad after being loaned out. It's rare at the bigger clubs anyway but at City it seems impossible.

For those reasons I wouldn't be surprised if McAtee also became available with a buyback, although the loan might be renewed for a year as we might not want to spend that much on two players when we'd need to strengthen in 4 or 5 other positions.

Both players a dead keen on playing first team football at City. City hold all the cards, but a further loan should be possible, given they have both done well here.

Loaning both again wouldn't be possible. PL rules allow one per club.

Also we need to loan smart next season if we're up there.

would agree with all comments on this thread i think theres a good chance pep would loan both players back to us even if were in the premier league obviously neither would be allowed to play in the 2 games with city but if they help us take points off citys tital rivals ( ok thats a long shot) it benefits them of the 2 doyle is the one we would have more chance of buying pep must see mcatee as the next silva/foden

Man City have an article on their website which lists the 24 academy players that Pep has given debuts too. Apart from Foden and Eric Garcia they have mostly played one or two times for Man City and their debuts were all in the EFL Trophy or Cup and that is it. Five are currently on loan including Doyle and McAtee, the rest have left Man City. Cole Palmer has actually appeared in 6 games in the Premier League this season amassing a total of 89 minutes. None of the under 23 squad have played a single minute of mens football and non have been on loan. Imagine they are released, as many will be, and they are as clueless about defending as McAtee was when he arrived at United there would be little chance of getting a contract with a Championship or Lower League club.
It is harsh but I predict neither Doyle of McAtee will ever play for Man City in the Premier League.

think you might be right there and if thats the case we would have an excellent chance of signing both of them depending on the new owners finances of course

Its highly unlikely !
For these top clubs the academys are a factory that produces players that are farmed out to other clubs and helps them with f.p.p they make hundreds of millions and every now and again get one good enough to play for the first team

Yup. It’s just mind bogglingly difficult for an academy lad to make that grade.

We had Henderson for 2 seasons from Man Utd he was to become their No1 id like to think that we made a good job of helping him reach his potential having a decent youth program helps as we understand the benefits and restraints of younger players if we are to get promoted and the players mentioned want first team football then we would be in a good place to offer them that experience.

In the event we got promoted we would easily be able to get both on loan at worst. Neither would get near City's first team squad next year.
Doyle might be available to buy if we felt he was worth having. McAtee maybe but possible City might see him as a potential Foden plus.

If we go up, the only way we keep both is by buying at least one.

Buy Doyle loan tother. Feasible if and it is a HUGE if we go up.
Burnley halfway there and we have a huge game tonight. Must win.

Citeh are unlikely to let McAtee go permanently and Doyle is unlikely to want to walk away from Citeh permanently just yet, based on what he has said in interviews.
It is possible that we could get one or both on loan again though.

See post by Panini 2 above.

Doyle has plenty in front of him at City- he looks great to me and I reckon we'd have a chance of signing him.

McAtee, not a bloody prayer. When they'd drawn against Everton the other day (and convinced themselves they were falling apart after one dodgy result) they had a few on their forum calling for McAtee to be involved.

He's been head and shoulders above anyone else they've had come through - he's dominated in their under 23s. It's like having Foden on loan rather than a random young lad, they rate him as the real deal.

We're just starting to see what he can do... he'd be a great loan signing next year but as someone said earlier they've lent him us in the Championship to play possession football. A lot more chance of him being eased in nicely to possession based football in the Prem with them than us!

as good as Mcatee has been for the last few games, he wasn’t to start with. not a dig as he is still learning

but if he went back to City the competition is crazy -
De brunye
foden
grealish
mahrez
phillips
rodri
silva
gundogan

plus bellingham?!

good as he’s been for us, scoring against Blackpool and Coventry isn’t the same as displacing that lot!

reckon another stint back here on loan to adjust to prem football would be best for all parties

doyle - been at city since 2009, senior since 2019 and has 1 appearance.
cheeky £10m plus add ons is worth a try when we go up

We had Henderson for 2 seasons from Man Utd

Keeper is an entire different story completely in terms of being blocked from getting minutes in meaningful first team games. With midfield you expect some rotation. In goal, not so much

If United go up I think provided the clubs agreed on the financial side of things and buy back clauses etc in the sale contract , that there is every chance that we would get Doyle on a permanent provided if course he is sensible enough to realise that he would beuch better served playing with United in the PL than sitting behind loads of others in City's reserves, whilst I could definitely see McAtee being allowed out again to us for a season as City will still want him to develop and show he can do it in the PL. He's still way too young to be getting regular game time for City and there are others in front of him. I don't think we would get McAtee permanently unless something changed but I could see Pep.wanting to have him at the Lane for another season. Positives for City being we have already had him for a season so he would be settled, playing for a manager who is developing him nicely, playing in the PL, and who won't be a threat to City at all, and it's only a stone's throw away from Manchester so not like he has to live the rother side of the country. So I could see Doyle coming permanent and McAtee on loan for another season. That said, we need to get promotion first....
