Why couldn't he do it for us?

I know the standard is not meant to be that good in Scotland, but he was playing against their top team.

Did he ever play in the advanced striker role for us? I thought he was always relegated to running the channels.

Anyway, that was league 1 defending from rangers.

Stokes was tried in a number of positions and was sometimes decent in the build up play, but just bottled it in front of goal! We were well rid of him

Stokes is rubbish, and his reasonable level of success in the SPL is damaging the credibility of that league in my eyes...

I think it was perhaps his Mum or agent or something. No matter how many times we told him/her that he was bobbins, he wasn't having any of it.

Great for Hibs, and Falkirk, crap for us and Sunlan. Being big fish in little pool suits him tempramentally I think and I wouldn't want him back. I'd only be interested in Zemmama but he's hardly played since Xmas through injury (and look at Hibs since) whereas Alien thinks we should buy Sol Bamba, a man with less control over him own limbs than Lord Allen, though his insistance on beating at least three men in his own box beore sending it towards Livingston or having a personal game of paper stone scissors to decide who to mark at corners even whilst the ball is on it's way in would certainly liven things up.

Stokes is a very average player and the SPL is piss poor. Even Celtic and Rangers are very average sides and neither would stay up in the PL. They are both Championship standard at the moment and would probably find the going tough even at that.

He scores goals at that level because the defending and close attention from opposition players is nothing like it is in England. Give me loads of time and space and I would probably score a few in the SPL!!!!! He has scored against Rangers because as mentioned previously, they are very average as well as Stokes' confidence being very high due to his goal tally.....false confidence to be more precise!

Scotland's top team. It's like saying Jimmy Krankie is the best cage fighter in the Krankies household. Not much of a claim, is it?

And Anthony Stokes was dreadful whenever he played south of Berwick.

I must admit, if that was goal of the season in the SPL, it doesn't say much for the quality of the league. I mean, it was a good goal, but the defending was diabolical (giving a player time and space to play keepy-uppy in your own penalty area is never particularly clever). Surely someone must have scored one better than that - just someone who kicked it quite hard from a long way out and it happened to go in....

Blades-7 is right Dunc. I think you're thinking of Craig Beattie there.

Stokes was only with us up to the end of 2008 as I remember. Played a few games in November, possibly went back to Sunderland in the december if memory serves. Certainly wasnt with us in the back half of the season anyway.
