Great, we used to have a conveyor belt of right backs but now we actually need one.....
;)

Whats happening With Jake Wright Jr? thought he was smashing them in for fun? not even heard of him this season?

Could've done with him at Millwall!

Wilder does believe in wingers, in fact he believes in any formation and system which works to win Football matches, its just that our current system of 5 3 2 is the preferred system with the players we have. There is however a possibility of changing it to go with a flat back four if our wing backs cannot get good ball into the box.

I'm thinking the u23s lay the same 3-5-2 as the first team?

If so, given that Thomas seems to play in the no.10 shirt all the time (& the u23s play 1-11 rather than having squad numbers), maybe Thomas is being groomed to play the Duffy role?

C
Dislocated ankle, snapped ligaments and cracked tibia.
thats a bad injury
Mine was a compound fracture of the ankle
2 titianum screws and a lateral fracture of the fibula , ankle is now 95% without cartilage and completely fucked as a result
Hope the lad recovers
6 weeks ago due to weakness in the leg got another lateral fracture in the same location .

Don’t let that get in the way of wildly jerking knees every time a player not currently in the first team actually does something good.

We’ll be having street parties next time Reed accurately passes to a fellow fourth division player.

Within reason. One thing that isn’t negotiable is playing the right way. As he repeatedly says. “We don’t just bang it...”. He didn’t do it as a proper footballer. He won’t do it as a manager. All of that is entirely consistent with what you say, but worthy of mention lest the hoofers start getting excited.

He (Wilder) had a fall out with Bassett over hitting it long from the back.
And thats not hearsay

I’m sure that’s right. They may have similarities and I’m certain Wilder respects Bassett a great deal but their football philosophies are light years apart. Kevin Gage, in a unique position to know, has said as much and that Tuftyball is the vastly superior method. That of course would be so obvious that it went without saying anywhere but S2.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would not assert that CW's philosophy is many times more pleasing on the eye than Bassett's. History will record however that Bassett achieved back to back promotions followed by 4 successive seasons in the top flight, with multiple wins against Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Everton, the piglets and Liverpool on the way.
If CW emulates that whilst sticking to his principals, then let's start casting the statue.

It didn't look too superior against Millwall when we dominated possession and still got mugged. Fortunately, CW's experiences with Bassett means he'll understand why and how that happened and, hopefully, what to do about it.

I know. I followed the team home and away during that time. He was the right man at the right time. He had no capacity to adapt, however, when Hoof was inevitably found out. Once that happened it was truly awful to watch. He lost his position on the managerial merry-go-round at a younger age than the rest of the usual suspects for precisely that reason. He became, I’m afraid, a dinosaur. The notion, still held by some, that he would have any utility this century, is risible.

As an aside, Bassett got a lot more stick from the crowd than many on here would like to think, though not from me at the time. Also, in the interests of balance you might want to mention his relegations as well.

Indeed. Much to the disappointment of many on here, he won’t revert to Bassett style ‘football’ though. Thank Pele.

That's not quite how I recall it. His job became impossible due to the crap happening above him, like selling Deano and pocketing most of the cash.

I think after us, he took Barnsley to the play off final and got Forest promoted. I don't think hoof has entirely gone away, Mr Pulis for example.

I suspect his decline was due to other reasons, the same ones that made him look old before his time.

And no, I don't want a return to that kind of football. I would rather stay in the championship than get promoted playing Pulis's brand of 'football'.

How could you forget the return of the Clodfather? The inimitable Big Fat Useless Hoofy Bent Sam!

I wasn't intending to do a list. Sam was the manager I originally intended to refer to but at times, particularly at Bolton, some of his football was OK. Not great but they did knock it about in the opponents' half and had a few tidy players. Pulis, in my mind, is the epitome of dinosaur football, anti-football, at the top level. There are plenty of others like Parkinson around but their 'success' is very limited.

Yes, JJ Okacha was a pleasure to watch. There were a couple of other foreign players as well that I can picture in my mind, but can’t remember their names. A little guy with dark hair, very clever player...and Campo as well. I quite liked to watch them in those days.

I’ll give him that gladly. I think he’s reverted to Hoofy stereotype since, though.

Should we mention the ginger chap?

Was it the Greek winger? Stelios? Or am I thinking of Easyjet?

No, the ginger one probably won't be trusted to run a club again so we should consign him to the bin.
