Another successful tactical change?

In the first half today, there were lots of crosses cut out by their defenders without much trouble, as we generally only had one attacker, at the far post. In most of the attacks after half time, beginning with Billy's early miss, and clear in the film of the goals, there were several options in the box for the wide player to pick out. For the third goal, for example, Billy's cross misses Done and their defender/goalkeeper, but Duffy is in the space behind to score. Wilder deserves credit again?

I think much of it was simply due to the end product being better. And Swindon were poor defensively.

Funny how EEL plays a whole game at right wing against Shrewsbury and produces nothing, yet gets it once on the right side today and gets an assist!

Watching that back, I don't believe for a moment that EEL intended to pick Lavery out. But Lavery's movement was really clever - sometimes it's better to stop running in order to find space than continue in the same direction as the defensive traffic.

I remember (years ago) Shearer doing the same thing for Blackburn in front of the Kop. Basically slam the brakes on, watch the defenders carry on, then if the ball comes your way there's no-one marking you.

EEL played their starting striker out of the game, did the same with his replacement and then went on the wing to cross the ball for the goal to give himself something to do.
