During the dying embers of my marriage back in 1997, I took myself off alone to Zante for a week to basically get away from all the shit and bad stuff that was going on around me.
One of the local bars was run by a lovely couple from Leicester and one particular night, they had a lady Irish folk singer & musician on the stage doing a turn. One of the songs she did was "Annie's Song" to which she received a polite round of applause when she finished.
I'd had a few beers by this time so I stood on a table and proudly announced that I'd like to do the "Sheffield version" and promptly belted out the Greasy Chip Butty to a stunned bar. Being Leicester City fans the owners knew the song well and were absolutely pissing themselves at my rendition.
When I finished with the "na na na na na na OOOOOO", there was a moments silence until the owners gave a loud cheer and started clapping, followed, thankfully, by the rest of the audience.
Certainly brightened up my day
