It won't be 15m. But let's say its 10m with add ons, then it would be a good deal for us. However, our new consortium overlords don't appear to be wanting to spend any money, otherwise we'd have expected at least one proper first team signing (not just a loan) through the door after Souza's departure. So can't see it benefiting the squad much. Hopefully they realise copying the Brentford/Brighton model only works if you actually sign players. Hopefully I'm wrong and they have players lined up

As for Birmingham, in fairness I should have said they are stronger (especially upfront), but Beadle in goal (when they could have had Rushworth instead) changed my mind.

I've got family who are brummies they're not that confident even after last season, they know about our neighbours and are worried the owners are pushing the boat out to early.

Betti's is a Director now.
What new influence -actually based at the Lane where the business is done - could be anticipated when our Stephen is saddled with all the responsibilities of a CEO as well as being our de facto Director of Football ?

We will never be any different until the owners realise that - in a club aspiring to be PL , trying to build a new training ground etc etc - one man cannot do the lot.
Especially when you've changed from a Wilder -who wanted to do everything including recruitment planning - to a Selles who's a head coach.

We definitely need a Director of Football who is someone who's previously either played or managed or both - who's well-respected & known in football circles - to take some of the "football" stuff off the "general manager" Bettis
 
We had quite a lot of fans in meltdown and predicting relegation this time last year, not many were even saying top 6, now it's all 92 points last year we'll never beat that and the squad is now much weaker than last year.
There were three very good teams last year, and a decent team that finished forth but the rest were pretty poor. This season looks like it will be closer with six or seven good teams so I would expect the top 3 to get less points overall and the top six to be closer to the 80 to 90 points rather than two teams on 100 and third on 92.

I would say so far, the loans look as though they should be at least compariable with those last year, most of whom actually weren't that great over the season.

I'll wait and see who else we get on loan and buy and we do need at least one, probably two decent centre backs and a right back, but we still have a very decent squad.

Pre-season has gone well and I certainly think we have a very good chance of top 6, probably top 4, at this point in time. That can change either way of course, depending on signings and sales, which might yet occur, but we don't seem to under-sell players now at least and if players are determined to leave or won't sign new contracts with a year left we do need to cash in if a decent offer comes in unfortunately.

Preferably someone who can take on the training centre build as part of his duties.

I honestly think it’s why season after season we are too slow with transfers you see clubs linked with players and within a day or two they’ve signed ours drag on for weeks, wear always monitoring or considering or keeping an eye on situation it’s embarrassing a club of our size
 
The mistake is letting him get within twelve months of his contract expiring, it's not selling him now.

We're a moneyball team now imo. That means multiple things so prepare yourselves:

Any player within their last 12 months is prioritised for sale no matter how good they are. Any significant monies to reinvest is better than losing them in twelve months according to this methodology. Wages no higher than what we can replace him with will be offered as you don't overvalue them in either purchase or renumeration. If they don't resign, see you later...

Academy players offer pure profit sales and FFP is by necessity always a factor. Anel goes on a free instead of for a substantial fee and that damages your FFP calculation significantly down the track.

Any significant profit on an acquisition will be accepted. The belief is there that they can be replaced more cheaply and that there'll then be a net boost to the team/squad (we are talking the full financial packages here).

Ageing, high earners are prioritised for sale. Limited resale value, declining on field returns, increased injury risk, big wages. See you Kieffer.

On pitch numbers are micro analysed. Starting with availability.

Now we have to really hope they have a scooby when it comes to recruitment. 10 million is an incredible amount of money for a champ team to have to invest if you know what you're doing (presuming the Anel money and more is invested). Cooper, Burrows, O'Hare and Campbell for 5 million in fees only last summer. It's far from impossible. The asset base seriously needs restocking with young, hungry undervalued players that can get us promoted or be sold in the future for big money.
 

With this money (and souza money) we can fund Charlie Hughes and Woo (from Croatia). I would also be dipping into the non league market and buying Issac Lee from Flint town. Rave reviews about the 20 year old who's 1.95m tall....

As logical people keep on saying, our full squad won't be built untill the PL clubs have chosen their 25 and then there is a mad scramble for loans who are available. We will have 1 slot left with Tim coming in from Everton (pending Dewsbury Halls transfer in from Chelsea). The transfer window is one big game of dominos. Have faith. UTB

Didn't we pay £5M for Anel? If we make money back, in his last year, that's amazing business.

I really like him, l never thought we'd replace Bash, with a near like for like but Anel came close. He's had a horrendous time, off the pitch, while he's been with us but in spite of that, he appeared to be committed to the cause - I think folk mistake his natural, ambling gate and demeanor as indifference and 'not wanting to be here' but I think he enjoyed being a Blade. The support he received around the troubles with his Dad will have made a meaningful impression on him.

£15M is astonishing business, if you think what we let Berge and Ndiaye got for in their final years. I can't see it being that high, but if it is, the board should be commended.

The chat at the Dutch end is that he'll not be their record signing (£8.7m).

Prior to the rumour, I posted on here to ask the question "what would be a good return on Anel."
I thought £6.5m would be reasonable with a bunch of add/sell-ons attached would be decent business.
His book value will be less than £1m at this stage, so it'll be a decent profit.

If we use the funds to replace him with a decent CB prospect on a long-term contract, then we'll have done well out of it.

All for using the 5 available (matchday) loan slots, but we've not signed a permanent CB since Anel. It'd be nice to see us future proof that area of the squad.

It's naive to think other clubs get things over the line in a few days. It's just that you only see actual, mainstream, national news outlets (as opposed to murmuring in all other local outlets like the Norwich Echo or something equally as meaningless) a few days before things are happening, is the reason it feels quick. The BBC or Sky are only going to invest time are resource on stories that are actually happening or very close to. Unlike a local paper that's looking for ways to fill column inches with anything and everything.

I agree. I just hope we are ready to go on the replacement as soon as he departs.

The one time we did this well was when Berge left and Hamer joined a day or so later.

I’m hoping with the delay announcing Moore that this is what we’re doing in the background.

I’d probably say the one player united half wanted to go was Anel this summer due to his contract so they should have been prepared

Soumare was signed yesterday on a loan to buy.
