Andy Taylor started off at Blackburn (played with Treacy for our ressies) and from what I know, he's going to be an excellent signing for you.
He never got a chance with our first team (not even the bench) but was always rated as one of our best defensive prospects - alongside, Eddie Nolan, now of Preston. Rovers' managers tended to opt for mediocre experienced left backs instead of Taylor, so I believe that he didn't get a fair chance with us.
Taylor has good pedigree, as stated, having played for England U19 and U20. In addition, he has captained our most successful U18 side of recent years and was also captain of our reserve team.
Apparently, he is a very reliable and down-to-earth character. When he left us, he chose to join Tranmere, rather than Preston or Blackpool of the Championship because he wanted secured first team football and he wanted to repay Tranmere's faith in signing him on loan.
He's had a number of loan spells in League 1. Most were good - Crewe Alex, Blackpool and Tranmere fans will have many good words for him. Taylor did have one bad loan spell at struggling Huddersfield. The fans weren't impressed with his defensive ability, deeming him too "weedy".
As a player, he is good on the ball, likes to get forward. He is something of a set-piece expert. Even during his poor spell at Huddersfield, he made a number of assists for them. If he has one major weakness, it is that he is not very fast. He has been known to struggle against speedy wingers.
However, as he gains experience and improves his positioning, I think that he will turn out to be a very steady left back who will provide you with a number of free kick assists throughout the season.
Very good signing, imo.
PS: I wonder why the fee was undisclosed - I wonder if it has anything to do with the sell-on fee that Tranmere now owe Rovers...
