Well. A little bit of positivity on a shit night. He was good, very comfortable and didn’t look like it was his first league game for us.

Backs to the wall showed he’s a great defender in his own right, and he’s as comfortable on the ball as anyone we’ve got.

So, obviously he plays against Leeds in the middle of the back 3, but if he does well does he keep that shirt? That exact position?
Because I see it as a potential chance to evolve. He’s a great ball player, he’ll take the ball from anyone under allsorts of pressure, and he can ping like them best of em.

So my question regarding his inclusion and our potential evolution: Does it negate the need for a CDM if he’s playing as a sort of playmaker anyway?
Can we change our formation to include an attacking midfielder like yesteryear if we have someone as comfortable on the ball as him anchoring the back 3?
Berge, Fleck/Osborn and then Free... Didsy infront of them?

Agree that Ampadu did well. In general we're too quick to write off individual players when we're not getting it right as a team.

He did indeed, but Biden won and we just need to accept it.

He did ok tonight but, for me, he is the epitome of ordinary. He's young, though, and he'll make a very steady Prem player for someone, one day having gained good experience.
That said, 'ordinary' at this level represents a marked improvement after the season we've had. He probably impresses more due to the diabolically low standards set by Norwood, Fleck, Lundstram, and (when played in front of the back 3) Berge.
Better tonight, but it just shows how low we've been performing this year.
