Ampadu and our build up play

One positive about having Ampadu in the middle of our back three could be his quality on the ball bringing another dimension to the teams build up play.

One of the strengths (the weakness are well documented) that John Stones brought to the England team in 2018 was when he would step into midfield with the rest of the defence pinching together.

Could potential give us more possession and control of the game, not to mention overload the midfield and get Norwood more opportunities to get on the ball and switch play.

So in addition to overlapping Center backs we could have moments in the game where we’re on the ball in the middle with a tight diamond/box of Ampadu, Norwood, Fleck and Berge, 4 very talented and well rounded footballers that are comfortable on the ball and can progress the play.

He’s certainly shown for Wales that he likes to get on the ball and drive out of defence, hopefully he’ll be one of the positives that gets this teams season up and running.

Berge for Norwood and Osborn for Fleck and wait for it.........Ampadu for Lundstram. As versatile as Bash is we need him in the back line.

He did it twice against Villa 2nd half giving passes that were intercepted and leaving us wide open to the counter. I like the way he bursts forward but needs to take care with his passing.

Egan goes nowhere unless we have a free kick or corner. I wouldn't think we could play the system we do if we had our central centre back charging out.

If we do get Ampadu playing that John Stones role, I suspect JOC is on enough money to be able to resist the type of shenanigans his fellow scousers get up to.

I'm crying out for Bash in the middle now. He's the best box to box player we have, but Amapadu isn't great in the air.

Robinson makes some mistakes but at least we get back to losing by the odd goal when he's at the back. When Enda, Amapadu or God forbid Jags are there we seem to be all over the shop.

Robinson might not be a Premiership level one but at least he's a proper LCB.
