Almost feels like a loss

I'm amazed that some Blades fans are keeping up this chirade that we deserved the 3 points. I was over the moon that we took them but thought that on the night we were inferior to Wednesday. They shouldn't just be thinking that they desrved a point, they should have taken all 3. But luckily for us, they cannot defend for all the tea in China and we have more of a killer instinct and took our chances.

Listen mate, I know you are pretty fervent in your views, but really, its time to shut up now and stop stroking the piggies ego's and disrespecting our club by apologising for a solid win that you seem to consider to be just our good fortune.

'Inferior to them', 'They should have taken all three'? No matey, we weren't and they shouldn't. They played a few nice triangles for 20 mins I grant you, but only when they came back out with a rocket up their arses, and had got the early goal. But they weren't up to it, and didn't deserve it. Agreed, we won without playing any great football, but it was comfortable in the end, and we could easily have steamrollered them by another 2 or 3. If we'd have kept them out for the first 15 mins of the second half, then it would have been 5-0 or more for sure. The early goal just gave them a bit of encouragement.

You're confusing pretty football with effective football. Winning in style is nice, but winning is the more important bit.

There is no need to be patronising Duncan. Telling people to shut up when they are offering their constructive opinion is pretty out of order. My views might inflame you, but you just look like a plank if you started dishing out insults or trying to order people about.

I am not apologising, I am not stroking Wednesday's ego and certainly not disrespecting our club. I am merly stating my opinion. My opinion is that we did not play well. I thought that we looked shambolic. I have stated many times that I think we have a fantastic 1st team. I've said we are in with a good shout of automatic promotion. I love the Blades and was ecstatic that we stuffed our arch enemies. I was jumping around my mates living room like a nutter when we popped our goals in. However my opinion is that we did not play well.

I have stated my opinion and I will take a hint. I'll agree to disagree with Blades who think that we deserved the win.

I could come back at you with insults or patronising orders/requests, but what's the point? This is a forum for peoples opinions. I am merley expressing mine. I'd appreciate people taking a moment and trying to channel their views into constructive arguments rather than telling people to shut up etc.

To be honest Ollessendro I don't think Dunc meant to be patronising or offensive. That's the style of writing he always uses! Sometimes things come across in print in a harsher way than intended.

For my part, throughout this thread I think you've made some valid points, but I disagree with the weight you attach to some of them.

You have argued that they played the better football and we only won because of their defensive calamities. Well, I could argue that their goals came from a defensive howler and a needless free kick!

It's about how you exploit the other sides weaknesses to best advantage, and on this occasion we managed to do it better than them. As Dunc says (as well as you), we didn't play great football by any means, but in the end we were quite comfortable. Their goalkeeper was the one who was forced into making the save of the match and we saw out the last 10 minutes plus 5 of added on time without any alarms at all.

it certainly feels like a win to me when you could see the dissapointment on the piggy faces today

If we keep playing shambolic and winning I couldn't care less how we get the three points.Too bad we raced out to such a big lead early and took the pressure off should have just taken them apart a bit at a time.
Good for 25 minutes thank their keeper for making two class saves in the second half, with Bunn hardly having to touch the ball other than missing a 35 yard free kick that he should have covered .
Nice triangles at the halfway line with no peneration into the box the team ahead will let them play out there all day.
Every game is different .What did Davies say after Forest played them ,how do you play football against a team that just thumps it upfield.Their keeper can kick it a mile!

In no way were we inferior. Yes, they played well for much of the second half, but by the last 5-10 mins we'd got our act together again and were able to keep the ball better, so while I'd been nervous after the 2nd goal I was feeling much more confident towards the end of the game. And we had the best scoring chances after it went to 3-2, denied by fantastic saves.

Remember, we played with a CB that had hardly met his team-mates before and who looked like it in the first half (and didn't win a header in the first 20 mins), but who settled down and improved as the game went on. And the Ward injury hit us massively I think, as not only had he caused problems going forward but also gave great support to Walker when we were on the defensive. With Killa, and without the Ward injury, it would have been much more comfortable but over the 90 mins (despite a v creditable Pigs performance 2nd half) the right team won.

The only disappointment is that at half-time I was looking for a result that would put Boxing Day to bed once and for all and give us something to taunt the piggies about, but that'll have to wait for another day. We won, and despite the nerves for part of the 2nd half the feeling at the end was still great.

You raise a valid point about Davies being thrown in without completing any training with the team and taking time to settle into the system.
Also we had a central midfielder in Harper who has not had much playing time and Evans who still has to work on his partnership with Henderson which will take time to gel.
The loss of Ward was a serious blow because he had the beating of their defence every time he ran at them and Cotterill did not offer the same threat.

There is no need to be patronising Duncan.

A bit rich for you to accuse anyone of being patronising given that you labelled those with views on Friday opposite to your own as being through red and white spectacles as though yours is the only opinion that is valid.

It doesn't inflame me at all, and I'm not trying to be patronising either. I respect your opinion, but I dont care for it.

You have made four very long posts since 10am trying to justify why we are crap and Wednesday are brilliant. My opinion is 'that's enough'. We know what you think now, and you are in a serious minority. I think I may speak for many Blades when I say that we're happy to have the points and the bragging rights. I don't even have my red and white tinted specs on, and I can assure you that I am a long way from being a 'plank', (Patronising? Moi?).

I will admit I'm a bit fed up of Blades who spend considerable amounts of time and money following the team, and then moan like fuck about everything they do. Winning isn't enough. We've got to win in style playing 'the right way', whatever that is, and failing to do so devalues everything that the club achieves, apparently. Not for me.

There's enough piggies trying to make the same points you are making, and my opinion is its a bit rich for one of our own to be joining in as well on their side. I won't insult you by suggesting you go to Hillsborough if thats how you like your football, but if you really think we're that crap, why do you bother? Could you at least give Meadowhall a try..?

If they'd have equalised, then yes, it would have felt like a loss. However, they didn't!!

Ha ha brilliant

You have clearly missed the point that I have been trying to make. You say that I have posted saying Wednesday are crap and we are shit. But that nis not the case at all. I have said in at least 2 (maybe 3) of the posts that we are will challenge for automatic and that there is not another first 11 that is better than us in the divsion. I also think Wednesday are crap. But it doesn't matter, because you have branded me in the old school pessimist catagory and are not willing to read waht I write. I am not going to waste my effort any more. You are king (or queen!?) of the world and only your opinion matters!!!???

doesnt feel like a loss to me

think we were due a bit of luck against them

Blimey, you do go on! If I may make an observation.

Well said Coops, I love the fact that the Wednesday fans think they have done well to only lose 3-2!!

Went to a leaving party which I knew would be full of them after the game and walked in with my Blades shirt on, LOVE IT!

It didn't feel like a loss to me but it didn't feel like it should have done at half time.

I have waited nearly 30 years to erase the memory of being stood on Lemmings Lane and watching 45 minutes of hell (we should have been 1-1 after the first 45). The times I have heard "Boxing Day" and "massacre" in the same sentence have been too many to have to endure.
Half time on Friday and all that was going to be washed away with a scoreline that would be the perfect retort and would be celebrated until I leave this mortal coil.
"Boxing Day you say, what about 918 you stupid piggy twat?". That sort of thing.

Not to be. Happy with the win but just regretting not taking the best chance we've ever had of sticking it right up 'em and shutting them up for ever.

Totally ridiculous putting a new man straight in for a game of this magnitude

I'm glad Dave Bassett didn't think like that :)

Davies joins Sir Bobby Davison, Paul Rogers, and Neill Collins on the list of winning debutants v the pigs

Had Bullock and Morrison played for us before the win at Hillsbro?
