Apologies for the thread title, but I wasn't overjoyed at the final whistle, just relieved. The contrast between the performances in each half was stark, and I genuinely believe we were lucky to get the victory.

HUGE relief!! I spent most of the second half shouting "You're too deep! Move up!!!" I'm glad it's over, now we can breathe again.

Second half there was a lot of tension and nerves about the Blades play and among the fans you could tell. That Dutch winger that came on at half time for the Pigs transformed them. He seemed to make all the difference. Still we had two really good efforts which their keeper did well to parry. Think we deserved it overall. I used to be one that thought Cotts should start every game. Now I'm not so sure. I hope Ward isn't out for too long as he is on fire at the moment. Davies played quite well on his debut i thought and his booking was harsh because it was a good last man challenge.

Great game for the neutral, thay really are going to have to start to put Government health warnings on Blades shirts !!

I'm absolutely fucking buzzing. Expected loads of wednesday apologists, that's the blades way at the moment. Won't spoil it for me though. COME ON YOU RED AND WHITE WIZAAAAAARDS

Love the win and thank god we got our act together for the last ten minutes. If we hadn't I sensed it could feel worse than last years loss being 3-0 up and them pulling it back but thank god lady luck was with us for once !

Agreed.

Baring in mind our 3rd goal was an own goal.

We were lucky but atleast we scraped the win rather than them.

On the other hand, i'm not dissapointed, it doesn't feel like we've lost.

Very strange.

While this may be true, their goalie Grant still managed three quality saves, one of them world class 'banks'esque.

The massive expectation that we'd go on and win at least 6-0 maybe put a damper on things but in the end.....

........WE BEAT THE PIGS 3-2:thumbup:

Almost feels like a loss? What a load of rubbish. The only reason it turned out to be a game was because we were far too relaxed and overconfident starting the 2nd half - due to the 3-0 scoreline. When it mattered, we pulled through, and that's all that matters. I remember battering them in the 1st half of the 1-0 win in our promotion year - we were still having to cling on at the end.

Feels like a loss my arse - we deserved to win it on the balance of the game, and did win it.

I've never known an atmosphere like half-time down the back of the Kop. It was like Temple Bar on St. Patricks day. By the time I'd supped up it was 3-1. Yes! another Gaytud goal at Bramall lane I've missed.

I'm not sure we did to be honest. A draw would have been a fair result. Don't get me wrong i'm glad we won, i just wish we'd have made more of the second half. Going in 3-0 i was hoping for a massacre, and it didn't arrive. Whether that was down to overconfidence, or vastly improved play from wednesday i'm not sure. Stunning save by Grant from Morgan though. Had that gone in my mood would have changed.

As it was i picked the wrong night to quit biting my nails......

"Almost feels like a loss" - Ridiculous! what are you talking about?!

WE BEAT WEDNESDAY! we played really well in the 1st half! all over them!:D
we just gave em too much room in the second.

why not just be happy that we won!! :fishy:

really made me laugh all the wendies on radio sheff going on about how they played "beautiful football" and we just lumped it forward :p

Can't say I feel like we've lost :D Yeah I was relieved at the end but sod that, we just beat the bastards!

"Almost feels like a loss"

I'm not sure about that, I'd say more like a draw.

Our goals were scrappy to say the least.

Yeah, I know, they all count, but their two were quality.

The thing that gives the win a slightly sour note was the fact that we had it

in our hands to give us a result that would spawn songs and memories my (as

yet unborn) children could sing and talk about.

And in a way, we blew it.

Did blow it as much as we thought we would on 60 odd minutes though!

Hell, I've only seen us beat the swine three times in the flesh so I'm savouring every minute!

exactly kelham, that's my only lingering disappointment, we've all dreamed of giving them piggies a hardcore rogering that jenna jameson would be ashamed of and tonight for a moment it felt like we might get to see it happen.

At the end of the day though at least we still have the dream, it just wouldn't be the same going into a derby game with that feeling this could be the year I've waited for to give them a tonking.

The facts remain we're above them by 6 points, we managed to easily get a three goal advantage playing alright but we all know we can get better performances, and finally we played a CB who had barely had enough time to say hello to the other lads and tie his boots up before being thrust into the pressure.

Overall an extremely satisfactory result to put it lightly and let the dream live on - how much better would that hammering be if it came at the pigsty? :-)

Watching the match live on TV in OZ i thought we were at least their equals in the second half. 2 of their 3 shots went in and ours were saved (one briliantly). Our wall formation for thier second goal and for a couple of other free kicks was woeful to say the least. A double for us the season after theirs would be fantastic.

Now I've slept on it...
Yes, after 3-0 at half time it's bound to seem a bit of an anti-climax, but we won.
Totally ridiculous putting a new man straight in for a game of this magnitude (see other posts re. poor planning leaving us short).
First half, we were first to every ball and bossed the game, so why the nightmare second half? Obviously losing Ward was critical and if it was Johnson who did him, it just confirms what a dirty bastard he his (he did Naughton in both games last season).
But the reason - the real reason - Wendy came back into is was that ref. What an incompetent, biased twat he was. Often 'not seeing' blatant Wendy fouls and booking our guys for the most innocuous challenges.
We were not allowed to develop any rhytm or possession in the second half due to this idiot. Now some refs. have off days, but I truly believe refs. like Wiley (and most of the other 'big name' refs) are bent. Hardly sour grapes as we won, and I wouldn't have criticised Wiley if we'd lost. It just needs saying.
Wendy? Suppose you've got to admire Tud-Gay even if his white boots/ankle socks combo makes him look like a reject from Strictly. Grant is fairly solid and Buxton is one of the worst footballers I've seen in a long time.
Killa probably back next week, maybe a couple of loanees in (if Blackwell doesn't gob off about it and allows somebody else to nip in) and onwards and upwards.

If a week ago, somebody told you we would win 3-2, what would we have said?

We'd have snatched their hands off! (every ONE of us).

The record book says we won, and we've got the THREE points.

Now enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a shocking title to give a message thread on a Blades board!

Winning is everything, particularly in a derby. We outplayed them 1st half, to be fair they dominated 1st 25 mins of 2nd but we came good again & created the better chances....one bringing an outstanding save from their keeper.

As someone above has mentioned, I've been to several games at the Sty where we've dominated & lost...& that was sickening. The Pigs may be saying they are proud ...but they will be the ones walking around with that horrible gut wrenching feeling for the next few days.

42 - 35 to the Blades. Normal service is resumed.

After watching the game again without the pressure of it being live i actualy think we deserved some goals in second half. We wern't outclassed and infact we had the better chances.
