Is anyone else annoyed at the reporting of the alleged racist chanting at the Bradford game as reported by a fellow blade, who must have fantsatic hearing, sat in the South Stand.........according to BBC Radio Sheffield the Kop were chanting you're a Town full of 'Paki's' and also according to Brdford's Chairman Monkey chanting.
I sit on the Kop and heard a group of about 20-30 chanting 'you're a Town Full of ISIS' which is wrong and could be construed as racist.......however this chant was ended after a minute or two when older Blades at the back of the Kop pointed out that the chants were wrong.
The Club of course have been slated by the BBC and the blade who made the compalint for not responding to the complaint immediately.......I work in local government (obviously we're as PC as they come) but we have a set timesecale to respond to compalints like no doubt the BBC does and I bet its not within 24 hours of the complaint, we only do that for racist behaviour if its directed at the complainant not someone who has compalined thinkign he heard racist chanting - the blade compalinign wasn't sure what was chanted!
Isn't it time the Club got rid of BBC Radio Sheffield as they are behind the vast majority of news items that slate us as a Club..............perhaps Football Heaven and the news Editor at BBC Radio Sheffield should join this forum and join a number of other Blades knockers!

With the historical bias that both radio Pig and the Piggy Star have exhibited over the years, I would be delighted to see the Club ban both of these crap media from the Club for the foreseeable future ...

UTB & FTP

I'm not remotely annoyed that someone heard racist chanting and did the right thing.

Slightly annoyed at the negative press at the club for not responding as it's a difficult issue for them to deal with. I think the Bradford chairman's comments were sensible identifying the moron contingent and not trying to tar the whole club with that brush.

It's not those reporting it that are at fault. It's the cretins who thought it would be a good idea to start those chants.

But agree the local media have a bacon flavoured bias and have for some time. That being said, I still listen to football heaven and read Star articles.

No problem with Radio Sheff, or any other media outlet, reporting this. Indeed, they should do so. The problem's the tiny minority of racists who take part in these chants & who bring shame on the club via the inevitable media scrutiny.

Btw, I've got full confidence the club will fairly investigate the matter (&, if needs be, ban the culprits). I recall the Oldham game a couple of years back when Lee Croft alledgedly handed out racist abuse to a ballboy - subsequently found not to be the case, but dealt with promptly & with full seriousness by the club. United, as a football club, have been leaders in the fight to stamp out racism within football - something we can rightly be proud of, despite the troglodyte minority (here & elsewhere) who still think racism's a badge of honour to be displayed whenever the opportunity arises.

Incidentally, I was sat on the kop for the Bradford game &, in all honesty, I didn't hear the chants (& I'm an acknowledged "lefty" who's attuned to picking up on this sort of thing). Which makes me think the numbers involved were pretty small.

It's race. Rational debate, nuance, proportion, context go out of the window.

This is a serious issue and it just becomes a football booted around from one special interest group to another, generally serving their own interests.

Racism is pretty disgusting. The reaction to alleged racism is pretty disgusting too.

Haven't heard the RS report and given they don't have to generate controversy to shift units there might be some hope of a sane outcome, especially given what the Bradford chairman said (and all credit to him), but it's a small hope.

Sheffield United home to racists and rapists. Not the club I recognise.

His hearing must be good. I heard what I thought was "town full of actors" from the South Stand. I'd assumed devotees of Emmerdale were in the crowd.

I sit on the South Stand, high up (row KK) and close to the away end. I can't hear half of the things chanted on the Kop, unless everyone joins in, and can't usually tell what the opposition are singing, unless it is a well known one like "everywhere we go", or "you fat bastard".

Not sure why anyone would pick out Sheffield United, as abusive or near the knuckle chants have been part and parcel of football crowds since I started attending as a lad in the late 60's, just like people using the "F" word and the "C" word when little kids are sat nearby.

It's not big and it's not clever (although occasionally funny), but we are still going to hear it, week in and week out.

I sit on the kop behind the goal, row P,so relatively near the front, when the chant started, I and one or two around asked, a town full of what? we couldnt tell what the last word was so how somebody on the soutg stand could I dont know, unless they have heard it before somewhere and put two and two together. Some years ago a black striker returned to the lane and scored in front of the kop ( cannot remember his name, stocky big arse) good player, the kop chanted you fat b......D he turned around and did not look happy,a few days later he said he was unhappy at the rasist chanting after his goal, his interpretation was you black b.........D, he was 100% wrong but just shows what you think or want to hear, I have always felt my club, cerainly the fans are anything but rasists, just as I tell people so is the Sheffield, always get a few dont you.

I didn't hear a thing and i was sat towards the away end so i'm almost certain the Bradford fans didn't hear anything. Who has kicked this fuss up anyway? Whoever sings those sorts of things will get what's coming to them, it really isn't anything to kick off about, if guilty it will get sorted one way or another.

Well done to the Blades players on the pitch, a great second half performance which was a real joy to watch with some of the best football i've seen for ages, bring on any fucker now, how times can change.

I can catergorically state I didnt hear any racist chanting

we won .............. why would we be nasty
mind you we wouldnt do it if we lost either

Their chairman is an obese and obnoxious xxxx who has been disrespectful to our club on TV several times. He clearly does not like us, presumably because we generally beat them.

There was no "Paki" chants. A brief chant about ISIS which we can debate forever but in my view wasn't racist. As for the so called Blade who made a formal complaint, hang your head in shame.

Radio Sheffield is a fucking godawful station anyway. I mean really really terrible.

Football Heaven for a start is fucking gash, how anyone listens to that as an outlet for serious sports journalism or edifying debate is beyond me. It's just sad bastards ringing in, trying to be local celebrities by saying the most over the top thing they can think of on a daily basis.

I wonder if Asian Blades or even Asian Bradford fans are offended when they hear "town full of ISIS" or are we just angry on their behalf?

It's not just about who is offended. It's about allowing a mentality to go unchallenged. This sort of prejudice is just so wrong and should be condemned regardless of who has been personally offended. It just fuels and supports extreme right wing ideals.

I sit on the South Stand, row QQ in "F" block so bear the back and towards the away fans. I heard the fairly quite chant (can't have lasted more than 5-10 seconds) and had to ask the guy next to me what they had sung - he replied "hope it's not what I thought". I really believe that our fans are amongst the least racist in the country and was gobsmacked at this chant - whichever the last word was (P or Isis) and I hope the club can somehow dig out those responsible and show them the door.

I was in the South Stand and thought I heard "Town full of" but not the last part. If it was "Pakis" or "ISIS" then I'd be appropriately disappointed, but it has to be said that it would be my first experience of racist chanting at the Lane.

I was on the Kop and I don't remember any chanting like that. It must have been a small number as I couldn't hear it.

disagree with your first comment.

Today the raison d'etre is all about NOT causing offence to anyone.

The problem is that it's now going too extreme. Everyone seems to be easily offended and it's a big brother politically correct level of mass control that equally worrying.

Sadly, it's not the first time it's happened with Bradford. I remember a boxing day game at their place a few years back (around 2003/04 maybe?) we won 2-1 on a freezing cold day and there were disappointing chants of "small town in Asia" that day. I don't think it's a case of our fans being more or less racist than others. Just that there are uneducated cretins attending football matches.

Apart from.mark the pitsmoor pig
He is the new gerald sindstadt

Apropos of nothing much, in the early 90s, Trig Jnr (TE) played for a local U-13 team and was reffed by Gerald Sinstadt on a couple of occasions. Until that point I had no idea he lived in the area. He wasn't a great referee, but I was impressed with the fact that on Saturday evening he was doing MOTD commentary and on Sunday morning, he was running about on a windswept field in Leek. He clearly loves football.

Anthony the "do you know what I mean" Owl was on last night, absolutely excruciating, know what I mean? :-).

We're a home to more than one rapist now are we? Or have we ever been?

Fucking stupid comment.

What would be too extreme about this reaction? It seems like the scenario right now is that we suffer some minor indignation on account of some sloppy local journalism. Worst case is that it's established that this actually happened and the majority of people are disgusted by it and, quite rightly, make that clear.

Just to confirm what has been stated already - I was sat 2/3 the way up the Kop and the chanting of 'town full of ISIS' came from about 20 people at the back for about 10 seconds total. I never heard anything about 'pakis' if that makes any difference.

I think that this is another one of those sensational stories that fill our media nowadays. Out of about 22k blades there were roughly 20 cretins. Not condoning it but that is hardly an issue at club level.

I think we are all in agreement that it's wrong.
I just asked a different question to the one you answered.
