One of my mate wrote mcatee off early doors.

Players take time to settle in. And we've got a brand new squad and formation.
After the Luton game there were loads crying that he wasn’t good enough.

Good lad. Bailed us out a few times today. Needs to play CB. We look utterly chaotic defensively, but for Gilchrist.
Are you saying he would be our best CB after Souttar , therefore he should play there and we should go and get ourselves a quality RB instead of Shackleton who isn't really a RB ?

So , with Anel due to leave , we have a decision to make.
Do we shift Alfie to CB alongside Souttar , and go get ourselves a quality specialist RB which Shackleton isn't.
Or do we keep Alfie at RB ?

I don’t get why people are wanting him moved to Centre Back when he just played a great game at right back..
Robbo is going straight back in the team with Souttar under Wilder whether we agree with that or not.
Gilchrist is rapid and I like him at right/back up against pacey wingers- he can actually block a cross (and did numerous times today) which is something no one else seems to be able to do!

Tenacious defender, reads the game really well for a young lad.
Positionally, still learning on the job a little. But his awareness and agility gets him out of jail quite often on that front.

Would like to see more from him at the other end of the pitch because I don't think he's bad technically, but a little Baldockesque in terms of his limitations.

A really good loan though.
Slotted in nicely and seems to be very popular with the group.

What does everyone else make of him?

Crap 😉

He’s growing all the time.

Seemed more confident in the ball today striding forwards too.

Bad tackle on their lad though. Could have been worse than a yellow. He needs to learn from that. Could have opened the door for them if we’d gone down to 10.

He did get caught out of position alot, you would like to think this is something he can improve with training and experience. I liked how he seemed braver getting forward rather than being rigid in the "hes a defender who can't get forward" mould he has been attributed with.

Brilliant in physical tussles. After last season watching us get trampled over every week, I’m enjoying this.

That tackle was ludicrous. Needs to learn from the escape.

I really like him. A defender that can defend and seemingly enjoys defending, like a breath of fresh air after last season.
Don't really care about attacking limitations, we've got enough forwards on the pitch to do that. His covering, tracking, marking and tackling were excellent again tonight. He's not even 100% yet, so I think he will get better too.

I wonder what his ceiling is.

He probably lacks the physical presence to make a top-level CB, but at RB he will also need to become so much better in attack to be a modern wing-back.

He has a lot of ability though and it's rare to see someone so young read the game and defend so well, so he has a big chance.
Seems a good lad too, so I'm sure he'll go as far as he can.

He was amazing tonight. He'll be our MGW by end of season, a fan favourite and probably be sold for 30m by Chelsea in the summer.

That tackle was borderline red but shows Wilder in our players heads to give everything.

Love how he celebrates his big tackles like goals.

The one where he dispossessed miller coming into our box down their left was class

In today's game it probably was.
Both feet left the ground, usually enough to meet the criteria of "out of control / reckless."
I'd have to see it again but it looked like no more than a slightly late tackle to me at the time

I can never understand why there is such an outcry for one of our players to get sent off and a genuine outrage at only getting yellows. Happens every game in tte shout ox and after on here

I doubt any Blades wanted him sent off...
I certainly didn't.
But objectively speaking it looked a red card (on second & third viewing).

I think Wilder knew it as well, which probably contributed to a good bit of management in removing him from the situation.

Big fan of the buzz cut too. In an age where footballers are all aiming to look like Jack Grealish, it’s refreshing to have someone with a no-nonsense approach.

We did get a bit lucky that tackle he put in though! Could easily have been a red.

The signings all look to be decent.
The defence especially after last season look different gravy. 3 clean sheets in 5 and Cooper looks really solid. Gilchrist was the man of the match for me.defence wise and Hamer and OHare will frighten most defences in the championship

Hull put 3 different players up against him during the game and he got the better of each one. Needs to be careful though tackles like that in the Premier league sees a red card all day long. A player in the Prem would still be rolling around screaming when everyone had gone home.

It happens all the time
Maybe in this specific instance I'm wrong but can you imagine another set of supporters where so many have commented during and after the game that their player should have been sent off ?. I can't

Certainly not passionate die hard supporters

It's night & day from the last Summer window.
Every signing has contributed, including McCallum & Shackleton in helping us see games out... they all seem to have bought in and there seems a good spirit in the squad.

Wilder knew what he needed, was ruthless in letting certain players leave and he's improved us in every area.
He's worked a mini-miracle and I can't say I expected it this quickly.

Refreshing to see the lack of injuries so far too, we had a great run under him and Knill for a few seasons so I doubt it's a coincidence.
