...to Ipswich Town on loan, with a view to a permanent deal.

From the Ipswich OS.............

Town have snapped up Republic of Ireland international Alan Quinn from Sheffield United on an emergency loan.

The 28-year-old midfielder will join Blues at the weekend when the formalities of the paperwork are completed but will not be included in the squad for Saturday's game at Blackpool.

Quinn has been capped eight times by the Republic of Ireland and played in their 2008 European Championship qualifying campaign.

He started his career at Sheffield Wednesday, where he was a team-mate of Town boss Jim Magilton's, and went on to make 180 appearances for the Owls, scoring 17 goals.

After a spell on loan at Sunderland, he moved across the Steel City in June 2004 and quickly won over the Sheffield United fans with all displays down the flank.

He is the only player to have scored for both United and Wednesday in derby games and ironically his move to Town comes on the eve of the all-Sheffield clash at the weekend.

The Dublin-born player has made 109 appearances for the Blades, including 19 in the Premiership last season and signed a contract extension in the summer tying him to the club until the summer of 2010.

"We had to move fast when I heard Alan might be available and we are delighted to have him at the Club," Jim told the Club website.

"He will meet up with the players before the Blackpool game but won't be involved and will then start working with us from next week.

"I've known Alan since he was a lad and he will come in and freshen things up for us and I'm delighted he is with us.

yeah, always liked quinny, shame. ehiogu in quinn out, bad business IMO.

Problem with Quinny is.... he's never consistantly been in form, nor has he consistantly put the work in when he loses the ball. He CAN be a great player, the problem is, he never seems to be able to do it enough.

But going forward he is fantastic :D

How often though? :)

He has not been given a consistent run in the team for the last year and a half. There is no way anyone can tell me that that is good for him. He has been treated badly by both Robbo and NW, and now finds himself on the way.

But has he been treat badly or been a victim of his own inconsistancy? (you could argue that "Mike" Tonge has been lucky on this one :))

If they wanted to treat him badly, both had had plenty of chance/excuse to do so in more ways than just not give him a consistant run in the first team.

Perhaps his inconsistancy relates to no being in the side on a consistan basis.

Lets face it though, if he plays well 1 in every 5 games, thats more than Tonge. A player who he is not prepared to let go.

But why would you wan't to consistantly play an inconsistant player? :), its swings and roundabouts. I'd say he's probably made what... 80/90 appearances for the blades? What proportion of these would you say he was fantastic?

He can be immense going forwards.... but at other times he's a dab hand at giving the ball away and then watching the play go by.

For his faults, I think Tonge is the more able of the two, it's just managing to coax it out of him.

Robbo should know a good midfielder when he sees/works with one!

I'd say he is a good player for this league but can struggle in the PL. I see no reason to let him go at all.

From my experience of Quinny, yes he may suspectable for giving the ball away, but he will always fight to get it back. He may not however if someone else loses the ball.

Quite possibly fella, but how you have to look at it, Tonge is doing nothing of note at all and is playing.

If he isn't going to get a game, he's better off the wage bill. Maybe he's making way for a replacement? or Robbo has decided there are too many infront of him.

Christ, which Quinny have you been watching?, I'd estimate Alan will fight to win the ball back approx. 1 game in 5. Thats what frustrates me about him!

He's having good spells throughout games and I assume he's doing a lot more in training. His shot on target from the edge of the box indirectly created our second goal on Saturday :) It's not really about Tonge though, its about whether Alan Quinn still offers us enough to justify his wage.

If there is a replacement coming in, then that is fair enough. But shouldn't we be confirming these before letting him go out?

Yes its best to get him off the wage bill if Robbo isn't goiing to play him, what I don't understand is why he isn't playing him.

Our opinions will have to differ on that then.

His good spells are few and far between, and its all very well down well in training if, but if you don't take it on to the pitch you may as well not have. His shot that created the first goal saturday was probably the most pivotal thing he has done since his assist on the first day of the season.

Typo with the goal . What about when you don't do it in training or on the pitch?

Didnt he score on the first day of the season? ;)

Should Quinn get in the team ahead of Speed/Carney/Hendrie/Martin?

You know we COULD go on all night Foxy :D

Anyways......... I think Martin, Hendrie, Carney and Speed all have very good shouts for being in the team. But I don't see any reason to exclude Quinny. The 4 you have picked would probably be my prefered starting Midfield as it currently stands.

and there lies the problem :), where does Quinny fit in? on the bench with/instead of Monty, his little bro, gillespie, tonge?

I don't recall many suggesting Quinny needed to come in to our needy midfield of late, there were more calls for Nicky Law :)

He's a good player when he wants to be and I do wish he was playing week in week out, carving open defences and bombing forward. Sadly though, its never looked like its going to consistantly happen, so we're better off with him off the wage bill/room for more incoming and he's better off with more chance of games elsewhere.

Who knows, maybe he'll come back from the intial loan having a string of good games behind him? i'd much rather risk Ipswich carrying him than us carrying him :)

It all depends on what you're looking for really. I'd put him above SQuinn, Keef, Tonge and Monty, but thats basing it upon an AM role.

Touché

In my opinion it never looked like happening because he hasn't been given the right opportunity for it. Perhaps I'm missing something though, we obviously don't see what happens in training.

I can't see anything but a perm deal though and that is what annoys me.

Good luck to him, he doesnt figure in the current managers plans so he's doing the right thing for him. Should he figure, well in my opinion probably not. But anyway good luck to him.

At least there'll be less Wednesday fans down there for him to beat up in random drinking establishments :D

I know the kid. Nothing happened, but if it had, he deserved it. :D

Sorry to see him go. For me he'd be higher up the pecking order than Squinny, Monty, Hendrie and Martin but he's not in Robson's plans (even though Robson's plans are a big fat load of shit) and for that reason I wish him all the best.

Just got back from seeing him play 45mins in the Ipswich reserves. He played well, got stuck in and tried hard. Good luck to him! Hi everyone btw. :)

400k for him is a joke for the best midfielder we have :rant:

Just before we were promoted I could have possibly agreed with you and put him up there, but now he's no where near.

Still a shame to see him go though.
