Excellent evening of reminiscing, behind the scenes stories, why Tracy dislikes Warnock and fell out with Harry.
Kelly was very eloquent, diplomatic and witty.
Tracey was enjoying a beer, witty and a tad less diplomatic.
Subjects covered.
Warnock.
Harry.
Spackman.
Flo.
Fjortoft.
David Barnes in abundance.

And others. £10 well spent.

Come on then what was David Barnes up to? You can’t leave it at that!

Both Kells and Trace.(Their pet names for each other) tagged Digger as THE biggest character they'd played with. He was 7 stone wet through and had a practical joke for every hour of the day from nicking Dooleys false leg whilst he was enjoying a swim in the hotel pool on a pre season tour to waiting for Jostein Flo to have his shirt half off before slamming a dustbin over his head and trapping him from head to waist and twatting him. On a regular basis.
Bradders got quite a few honourable mentions as well.

My brother and I used to play football at John Gannon's Northern Football Academy up at High Storrs. One week, when I wasn't there, my brother broke his leg. To cheer him up, Gannon brought Simon Tracey (then still our goalkeeper) round to our house once my brother was out of hospital. Tracey was a great character, sounds like that came through again tonight!

Tony Agana said in an interview some years ago

The post season trip to Magaluf hit the headlines as trouble erupted on the return flight.

“There was some boisterous behaviour, complaints were made and players were being picked out that were not even involved. The next thing we know we were landing at Birmingham – not our intended destination – and the police were waiting. We got the train back to Sheffield and were shocked to see the picture of us leaving the plane plastered all over the front of the local Birmingham paper. By the time we got home and put the telly on, Billy (Whitehurst) and David Barnes was on News at Ten!”

Billy Tightshirt was mentioned this evening but in a very low key understated way. It was obvious that both Tracey and Kelly weren't going to reveal anything hard-core. They both spoke glowingly of him. Especially Tracey who played against him whilst Billy was at Hull and was put in the back of the net with the ball. We signed him a week later making Tracey the happiest keeper in the world knowing he wouldn't have to play against him again!

Kelly didnt play with Tightshirt at the same time

Gutted to have missed this, would have loved to go. Kelly was my hero growing up.

There was a very poignant moment when Kelly told the story of the club's attempt to sell him. A young lad approached him that same day and offered his pocket money if it helped him stay.
That lad now grown was present tonight.
Lovely story.
I loved both the guys but probably rated Kelly the better.

Did he accept the bribe?
When you say ‘club’sattempt to sell him’ do you mean against his will? And was it when he actually left or before?
Thanks.

I love these events and have been to a few but unable to get to the last couple. They provide a great insight and some funny stories and I do enjoy people returning and showing great affection towards our club.

It was a signing session on the day it was sorted he was leaving. He described it as being made clear he wasn't wanted and it was going to be made difficult for him to stay after his loyalty, a slap in the face as it were. .. Started along the lines of 'and that money we owe you, you aren't getting it'...

Really gutted to have missed yet another one of these evenings due to my work rotation. Having these two keepers Tracey and Kelly (plus Mel Rees as well) at the club at the same time wouldn't happen in today's football. They were both fantastic keepers, with Tracey being a little less 'predictable'.

Why does Tracey dislike Warnock? He always comes across as a rational, calm and collected bloke in after match interviews.

Tracey was organising a collection for a member of staffs 21st birthday shortly after Warnock took over. Warnock made it clear he wasn't interested in putting a penny in. Tracey acknowledged Warnock was very good as a manager in getting that bit extra out of players but felt he was a mean, not very pleasant person.

I'm now presuming this was prior to every match. Would explain a great deal about how he always played.
