Indeed. So appalled were by the owners by Brannigan's dereliction of duty that they sprang into action and a mere six months and one transfer window later they dispensed with his services without so much as a thanks and best wishes.

Dya think they told him?

<< Brannigan worked for both Hull City and Derby County before joining United nearly 24 months ago. An official statement confirming his exit said: “Managing Director Malachy Brannigan, who has served the club faithfully and with distinction for nearly two years, leaves the club with immediate effect.”

“The board places on record it thanks to Mr Brannigan for his enthusiasm, positivity, energy and for his devotion to and sacrifice for the club throughout his service,” it continued. “The board wishes Mr Brannigan well in his new endeavours.” >>

I'd forgotten all about the "new player contract negotiation expert" Carl Scheiber. Has he had a busy and productive couple of months?

Yet he was replaced and no doubt given a hefty sum to leave rather than carry on his sterling work. The club statement reads a bit like the notification for the latest managerial sacking.

Yes, I've no doubt he was sacked. But why wait six months if he was sacked for supposedly helping Clough circumvent the Owner's transfer policy?

Interested at what point you start actually stating facts rather than trying to make your own suppositions fit a story?

Has WHF been on to say he can't read Biggs anymore and is changing paper?

Well, its all supposition to some extent - we don't know if criticisms of Clough's work have any factual basis either. What we know is we had a manager and MD who were championed as the great white hope for the club, before both being sacked after bringing in a bloated, expensive, substandard squad between them. Just because its only Clough's work that has been publically criticised doesn't mean that Brannigan can be cleansed from all association with those errors. People usually get sacked because their employer is unhappy with their work and I guess Mal was no different? The differing time frames appears a little unusual, but then they're both not being judged on exactly the same set of criteria. Carrying out transfer protocol is just one area that perhaps overlaps with both manager and MD's roles, so they could both bear part of the brunt for this. Its also interesting that they chose to jettison Mal just before the January transfer window when surely much of the groundwork for that window had been done?

From the same local rag:

So the fans have pleaded with the board. We've pleaded with the manager. We've pleaded with the players. I doubt if the fans will treat Adkins' latest 'plea' with the same casual disdain.

Bless. Should we have had a whip round for some Kleenex?

Or should they have done the unthinkable and pulled their shirt sleeves up and got on with it, like the highly paid professionals that they are?
You don't think team spirit is important then?

Whilst I agree players should just roll their sleeves up, there's not much debate that good team spirit is important in football. Just look at the same Chelsea team, before and after last summer. It was another failure on Clough's behalf.

That's a bit harsh. I don't think it's fair to blame Clough for Chelsea.

If Clough had been at Chelski, surely it would have been Mcnulty,s fault
