I know wiki isn't reliable but it's got the following as our affiliated clubs. Can anyone recall anything that's benefited us coming from these ties?

Central Coast Mariners
Chengdu Blades
Estudiantes
São Paulo
Strindheim IL
Tata Football Academy
White Star Woluwé

Didn't we get Jacques Schitt? - not sure what he's up to.

Only real benefit I think we've had is from sending Matt Lowton to ferencvaros - got some good experience in a technical league and came back ready for our first team - should be doing the same thing more often for me! Hungary is a very technical league albeit lacking in the English tacticl nous or organisation - more worthwhile than playing for the kids reserves tho!

CCM gave us somewhere we could offload Monty to?
Aren't Ferencvaros on the list too? I thought McCabe had bought their ground as well?

Perhaps we'll never get a full explanation over why McCabe built up this portfolio of clubs, nor the total amount of money he forked out to "affiliate" them.
For all the reasons that were trotted out when each club joined the Blades organisation, to me, there's been little or no benefit gained from their association with Sheffield United apart from a home friendly with Estudiantes!!
It isn't half disappointing to see our club in such a fuckin mess at the moment, without a pot to piss in, when we can chuck money at projects like this with no apparent return.

Ah yes Chengdu the corrupt club that got relegated...so good to be associated with them.

Said it before but he is either genius and it will pay off?

Did the affiliation to these clubs cost Sheffield United any money or out of the funds From McCabe's development company? At the time I saw the potental benefit to McCabe being the building of new stadia. The football benefits were the thinly disguised bait.

The TATA connection was probably to curry favour (pun intended) for investment from the 4th richest family in the world. Man City would then be envious of our riches. Maybe ambitious, but worth a try never the less.

so estudiwotsits and san polo dont have any players worth loaning?

we should have got affiliated with whoever watford get all their team from!

Udinese mostly.

Also the good thing about foreign loans is you can have as many as you want and play as many as you want hence why Watford have about 15 season long loan players. Something you would have thought we could have tapped into especially back in the championship when we were looking to get endless loan players and we have enough clubs to look at.

True there is certainly some decent talent in Sao Paulo etc. Obviously no one that wanted to come to us I guess that is what we would be told or some BS like that.

"We looked to get some loans in from our sister clubs but they didn't get our fax." :)

Celtic did sign the Mariners' midfielder Tom Rogic for 400k in the last transfer window.
Probably lost his place in the first team when Monty moved there and had to go elsewhere to further his career.

It has been very interesting seeing how things have played out at the mariners since McCabe became involved - hotels, centre of excellence, off field revenue streams, new investors with $$$$ déjà vu.........same results as at united though, delays, debts, players and tax office not paid and no investors.

Difference is on field though, success, good football and youngsters coming through. It turns out Monty can play one football when allowed too although he did say that it was very different to how he was used to playing.

Not sure how united missed out on the talent exported - Mile Jedinak (palace captain and player of the year), mustafa armini (Dortmund), tom rogic (Celtic) plus there is Matt Ryan (a-league young player of the year 2 years running and soccerroo), Trent stains bury (apparently southhampton and Bolton have bid on him) and bernie Ibini (trialed at Brugge and again apparently an offer on the table) given the standard or should I say lack off from the limited games I've seen over the, last few years all of these would have been great aquisitions for united and pretty cheap as well compared to the money wasted.

Not sure the partnerships have anything to do with football but more to do with property development.

Sounds very similar to the Hungarian correspondant we once had.
