What do they bring to the table now two thirds of the season has gone and all been here long enough to
settle in!!
David Edgar :: steady as you go central defender very similar to Collins ,no pace but decent in the air
can be intimidated by powerful strikers (port vale away),not a player who can play from the back and with
Defenders like them ( Centre backs ) there's no way we can play from the back ( poor 1st touch and passing
ability),heart in the mouth stuff when he and Collins have the ball.In my opinion can get by in this division but
if Adkins wants to play from the back we have improve on these two.
Dean Hammond:: he was one I wanted us to sign ,having got him he's not easy on the eye and lot of what he does must go under the radar.he's not a purveyor of the ball or a real skillfull player but he is a Nick Mongomery type who the fans love to get at .I must admit I've not been overly impressed so far and his bookings are mounting up very quickly. In his favour Adkins rates him and he has promotions under his belt
at Southampton and Leicester, he also has captained Brighton,,soton and Leicester so the respective managers must rate him.His G P S stats must show that he covers a lot of ground ( under the radar ) as Adkins compliments him on this, Nick Montgomery stats were also very good regarding workrate.
Martin woolford:: Adkins did say publicly ( not Adkins way normally ) he was disappointed with what he had
offered so far, not brought anything at all to the team ,I would think Adkins will still be disappointed as he,s still to show anything.
Connor Sammon:: what can you say about this guy, built like a brick shit house but not really a physical player, his ariel prowess for a big guy is embarrassing ,doasnt offer much at all and his scoring record for a
Central striker is abysmal, what Adkins saw in him I don't know. How can a so called centre forward be so poor when challenging for a high ball!! In fact he doasnt challenge at all.
Billy Sharp :: we new what billy had to offer and when given the right service is a top striker at this and championship level, only had a short time in premier ( soton) so that is a division he's not really tested at,probably won't get another chance. He is a better alround player this time round and I would think very
frustrated at how things are panning out this season.Maybe will finish his career at the lane ime sure billy
would love that.
Conclusion :: a mixed bag of success and failure, but at least the one he paid good money for has been a success ,all the others don't come cheap with some on good wages, but we can say by by to them if we don't want to keep them:: Adkins and board Decisions.

Was Connor Sammon an Adkins signing?

It's been suggested that the deal was done with Brannigan / Clough?

Any manager/scout has to do a lot better than our last 8 managers have done with their signings.

New signings have to add value where it's needed most, it's all to do with spending a finite budget to the best effect. Even when Robson had money to throw around we messed up somehow.

NA signings are only one part of my concerns over is management record so far, with the rebuild required his eye for a player fills me with trepidation. He was quoted in the Star about CS, "Conor is a player we have admired from afar and have monitored his progress since he was at Kilmarnock." So I would assume it was a NA target as CS was at Killie 2008/11.

The "we" was very probably (almost certainly) meant as "Sheffield United".
Adkins, unlike Clough, uses "I", as in, post-Bury, all the stuff about "I'm the manager, the buck stops with me".

Some have greatness thrust upon them, some have Conor Sammon thrust upon them.

Yep, I asked that on another thread. Sammon came in a few weeks into Adkins' tenure, but the Derby connection suggests it was already a done deal. Could Adkins have vetoed it though?

"I'm the manager, the buck stops with me".

Agreeing to signing another managers target would contradict that surely, I think NC made enough bad signings without blaming him for CS I think that's down to NA.

Nice bit of click bait that putting the thread title in capitals and double exclamation marks making me think we'd signed somebody. Have a dislike.

I'd blame him fully for Woolford & Hammond. I reckon Edgar's been distinctly average. I don't even think Billy's been great (not aided by not having a suitable partner up front - something Adkins, again, is at fault for).

But Sammon was a fait accompli. He was landed with the big lump.

So another thing Adkins can pass the blame on then as well, the Sammon signing?

I don't think so. He was signed well after Clough had gone. Blame Clough for some things, but this continual justification of the many mistakes Adkins is making, and blame passing needs to stop. Adkins is failing his remit of promotion badly.

His signings, with the exception of Sharp, haven't improved the team at all.

No, just that Adkins doesn't have to be blamed for the sufferings of Syrian children in Aleppo, etc.

Blame him for what he's done wrong, fine. But point the finger elsewhere for things that were clearly outside his control. (And plenty of our current failings are clearly outside his control.)

Sammon was signed after he arrived at the club. I'd suggest that means he accepted the signing and wanted the player.

It's all about interpretation but "we" could have been him and his scouts tracking CS while he was managing Scunny and Southampton which would fit with the 2008/11 period IMO

Edgar has certainly improved the team. I don't think anyone would suggest he shouldn't be starting week in week out. Therefore, he is better than the alternatives thus improving the team. Hammond's contribution is debatable. Sammon's relationship with the crowd is beyond repair I think and Woolford is just poor.

Edgar wouldn't be someone I would want permanently, we require defenders who can defend without having to change our system to have midfielders protecting them restricting our offensive options.
