What on earth is his game plan?
He talks about working on it every week but unless its aimless passing in our half, just to end up booting the ball up the field when under any pressure then something just isn't right.
p.s. Glad we got a win even if it was a dull game to watch.

The way I see it:

Adkins has from the outset talked about being able to play three different systems a game.

What we were doing first half wasn't working for various reasons, so he changed it at half time, went to a diamond and scored.

Since Shrewsbury it looks like we've abandoned a more adventurous style and gone for 1-0 (or 2-0) grinds.

Today we were conceding possession even before Adams was sent off, but we dropped deep and repelled them for the most part. (Looked a lot like a Clough game at times - apart from we seemed more secure (touch wood).)

After that they had even more possession but again we let them have it and defended deep.

Looks like his preferred midfield three given what is available is Coutts, Basham, Hammond.

Edgar's injury means still no settled "spine" so consistency is going to be hard to come by.

Drawing and winning ugly so far.

Obviously a much sterner test next week. I get the sense we might be trying to contain them.

His game plan is trying to get a team together from an expensively assemble squad of Sloths.

Admittedly he hasn't helped himself with adding a couple or three more of them.

He's completely oblivious to the fact that the style he's attempting isn't compatible with the sorts of dross at our disposal. More of an emphasis on being direct is the only approach to take to have a chance at getting something out of players as low on quality as ours.

I realise he is low on players, but a narrow diamond without width makes Harris (hope he's ok) and Brayford just defenders as they can't overlap. Brayford's best asset is working well with a winger and placing effective crosses over. Playing three defensive midfielders and still nearly conceding with a free header is beyond tedious and plain incompetent.

Yet we scored after we changed formation then kept a clean sheet with ten men - and they can have their off target header if we get our shot that actually went in.

Plain incompetent.

His game plan is easy to work out.

He started by evaluating the squad, deciding who is half decent (out of the majority Clough players) and tried to play a more attractive 4-4-2 & 4-3-3 style which has generally failed. Not in my opinion the manager - the majority of the players just aren't capable of adjusting.

He has decided - quite possibly after Shrews at home, which may have been the last straw and has decided to go solid and try and stop conceding goals. He said after that game that he would solve the problem from within.

It may be a bit like Clough, but we cannot keep shipping goals. Give the bloke some credit - he changed it today at HT to a diamond and sacrificed Billy. The beard scored (thanks lino) and you cannot legislate for Adams being dismissed. We, as a team, dug in.

No doubt as Adkins attempts to make us more solid and hard to beat, fans will be criticising even more.

We as a club and Adkins as the NEW manager is learning on the job, with a squad of players he said wasn't good enough and he has been castigated left, right and centre. He will HOPEFULLY succeed, but it will not be easy and there may be some pain involved.

We MUST stick with this manager and give him a decent amount of time to get rid of the so called poor, Clough players and formulate a better strategy than in the past few years.

This does not happen overnight.
