Picked out a few players who all played under Adkins at either Scunthorpe, Southampton or Reading and could possibly fit in here. Not looked into their current contract situations etc so how likely it is that we could get them is another matter....

Kelvin Davis - GK - Hugely experienced, first choice the last couple of months of last season due to injury to Forster. Still a very good keeper at 38, could also help with both Georges' development.

Joe Murphy - GK - Played under NA at Scunthorpe and was first choice in both L1 and Championship. Now at Huddersfield after a spell at Coventry

Frazer Richardson - RB - Currently at Rotherham and played for NA at Southampton. Possible replacement/competition for Brayford?

Dan Harding - LB/RB - Played under NA at Southampton. Comfortable at LB or RB. Currently at Forest but spent most of last season on loan at Millwall. Another possible loan until Brayford is back?

Jos Hooiveld - CB - Already been linked with us having played under Adkins at Southampton in Championship and Premiership. Spent last season on loan at Norwich and Millwall and has also played for Celtic. Released this summer and a Southampton supporting mate tells me he's a very reliable defender and would be a good signing for us.

Danny Fox - LB/CB - Signed by NA for Southampton. Vastly experienced having played for Celtic, Southampton and Burnley in the Premier League, and also has Championship and League 1 experience. Didn't play much for Forest last season as far as I'm aware. Versatile defender and better option than Harris at LB in my opinion. Good dead ball delivery too.

Richard Chaplow - CM - Played under NA at Southampton. Released by Millwall following relegation. Experienced and similar player to Doyle so could add some much needed steel to the midfield now he has moved on. Would probably depend on where Bash will be deployed this season

Mikele Leigertwood - CM/CB - Had a bit of a non-descript spell with us when in the Prem and then in the Championship the next season. Could be decent at this level, similar to Chaplow so one or the other for me. I'd go for Chaplow.

Jobi McAnuff - Winger - Played under him at Reading. Spent last season at Leyton Orient. Very good player in his day, ageing now and best days are probably behind him, but maybe worth a year or two as a squad player?

Martyn Woolford - Winger - Played under him at Scunthorpe. Always rated him when he played against us at BL. Linked with him a few times but never happened. Released by Millwall following relegation. I believe he's a Blade too? Possible replacement for Murphy should he leave.

Mark Duffy - Winger - Another who played under NA at Scunny. We were reportedly close to signing him before he joined Donny. Joined Birmingham after one season but rarely featured. Another possible Murphy replacement.

Jonathan Forte - CF/Winger - Signed twice by Adkins at both Scunthorpe and Southampton. Successful at Scunny but not so much at Saints (due to likes of Lambert, Do Prado, Barnard etc ahead of him in pecking order). Lost his way a bit after signing for Southampton which included a largely unproductive return to BL. Found his form again at Oldham. Perhaps NA could get the best back out of him in L1?

Nick Blackman - CF/Winger - Was good for us in his brief spell, albeit he was a bit of a raw talent. Will have gained more experience since then and we already know he is capable of getting goals at this level. Never really been first choice at Reading. Tall, strong, skillful and takes a good penalty. Perhaps we could do with more of a finished article at this stage though?

Adam Le Fondre - CF - Don't think he played much under Adkins at Reading so not sure what kind of relationship they have. Seemed to be Bolton-bound a few weeks back after a successful loan spell last season. Permanent deal probably out of reach, possibly a loan?

Pavel Pogrebnyak - CF - Prolific at Fulham in the Prem a couple of seasons ago. Chipped in with the odd goal for Reading last season in a struggling side. Good strong target man and surely better than Higdon. Wages could be an issue so perhaps a loan deal?

Billy Sharp - CF - Follows Adkins around like a bad smell. Had two spells at BL before and never really produced, although we never played to his strengths. His best days are probably behind him now and I would say we probably have better options in Done, McNulty and Adams. Perhaps get him on loan if we lose any of those but otherwise leave alone for me.

Id take Fox, Murphy, Hooveld, Chaplow and ALF.

Maybe take Blackman back for the Bladeyness factor perhaps since everyone seems to want to sign former players.

Legs of wood can go join Monty in Australia.

last thing i want is a clough-esque influx of players just because they played for the same guy, look at the market as a whole. frankly not interested in any player you listed other than hooiveld maybe

Another is Hammond although I believe Leicester have offred him a new deal. Out of that list I think Hooiveld and Sharp are the only ones of real interest, with a young CB on loan and a midfielder who is physical and CAN get round the park to replace Doyle

We really don't need to do overkill in terms of squad changes this summer, we just need added confidence a guy like Adkins provides.

Frazer is a Rotherham lad saw him play quite regularly as a junior get the feeling he got let down at Leeds with various managers he was being touted as the next England right back at one time he must be getting on though? ?

I'd say two first-choice centre-backs on permanent contracts. We are crying out for two battle-hardened (that doesn't mean veterans) powerhouses who won't give an inch. Some rookie on loan is nowhere near enough.

We need a proper centre-forward as well.

Could you have traded-in one of those ?? for a , or two and maybe a .?

Basham is the other CB for me though, where as people who like a direct approach might have him in midfield..

OP missed out Ricky Lambert, unfortunately Liverpool gave him a two year contract so we have no chance, if he was out of contract we might just have had a sniff as he's apparently close to Adkins and "just wants to play football." Chelsea:eek::eek: my god

He's had talks with Swedish AIK, who he played for a few years ago.

I'd definately take Murphy (who I'm sure has been made available for transfer) and consider Chaplow, Woolford, Duffy and maybe Harding. We need another left back to put some pressure on Harris, who was awful towards the end of the season.

Couldnt agree more. Harris looked way too complacent back end of the season. His performances over the 2 play off legs was terrible. Can think of 4 or 5 mistakes straight away.

I lost count of how many unchallenged crosses he allowed into out penalty area over the 2 games. As he his header for their third :(

Yeah agreed. The away leg just ahowed how bad a back 4 clough had assembled and it shone through like a sore thumb and explained to board etc why he had to go.

Agree about Harris, poor at the end of the season, a real concern.

30 odd now... Not rated by most Rotherham fans I know

There should not be too many concerns regarding Harris, yes, he might not have been at his best towards the back end of the season but I could count on a 2 fingered rod how many players were playing well and freely towards the end of last season.

Harris is a great attacking threat who sometimes is careless and lacklustre in a challenge. What he gives us going forward though is worth it's weight in gold for next season under Adkins.

I personally don't think we'll do anywhere near as much defending under Adkins as what we did under Clough and this will see us in good stead when we see a marauding Harris bombing down that wing with McEveley as an adequate backup in this league, let's concentrate on more key areas such as the spine of the team.

Tying in with Adkins former players, I have a sneaky feeling that we may very well be looking at a centre half from Brentford - Harlee Dean.

Granted he's too good for this level but with Brentford trying the 'moneyball' system this season and today bringing in another centre half for a club record fee I can see Dean being in a fierce fight for a starting spot for them this season. Question is, can Adkins persuade him to drop a league? and do we have the financial clout to get this done? I think so.

*Ball to it - Ignore this I don't even think he was a Adkins signing

Don't worry, the incredible regenerative effects of a preseason will turn him into the next Paolo Maldini, just you watch ;)

Self-styled twitter guru Mike Stephenson (previously Straponisjealous on BM) said that Sharp, Hammond and Hooiveld were signing for us. 2 down, 1 to go..........

Yes but he said we were getting Adkins (or Robinson, or someone else) so he must know everything.

It's the daft sods that keep pandering to him, asking for snippets of info that I find most cringeworthy.

Harris has done exceptionally well considering his lack of games in the years before we signed him.

He was released by Q.O t. South in 2011 after 106 games. Had a trial at Blackpool and signed a 3 year contract in which time he only played 11 first team games ( not injured as far as I know) and 5 on loan at Rotherham. Bear in mind he's 27 years old.

He's played 49 for us in the best period of his career and how he must have been pinching himself. I think we should make due allowances for him and he will be a better player for the experience.

Nobody's mentioned Andy Keogh who's had a great season at Perth Glory. It was this lad who partnered Sharp in those halcyon Scunthorpe days and he's a very clever. mobile player and easily good enough for League 1.

Why come to Sheffield from Perth where he's a hero? You never know.
