The interesting one for me is DCL who looked very average for us. Couldn't see what Everton saw in him but obviously he now seems to be on the verge of the big time.

Exactly my sentiments too. The thing is, I'm happy to be proven wrong where one of our kids is concerned, so I've watched out for him since he's left but I still can't see what everyone else sees in him. Time will tell but I'm not a member of his fan club I'm afraid.

Dcl to Everton, Ramsdale to bourmouth, maguire to hull all in recent years, and brooks at the minute will no doubt be in the premier league in the future

A couple of things to bare in mind with the Academy.

Firstly, we've not been in a position to really bring players through.Someone like DCL would not have featured heavily if we;d have kept him last season. In a couple of years, he has the potential to be a quality player. He looked vastly out of his depth at Everton and was being used as part of internal politics at the club. There's no way we could have realistically held on to him until he'd developed as a starter.

Also, the style of football we play isn't easy to step into. It's difficult for players trying to develop elements of their core game to then adapt to our high pressing game.

Agreed .

Also add to all this the fact that the managerial revolving door that we've had in place for the last 6 or 7 years hasn't helped either .

There is one thing we can still say though , our Academy is very quickly gaining a great reputation throughout the game.

The academy presumably exists to help the first team achieve success whether that is in the form of players or cash rather than to make young Sheffield lads very rich by playing elsewhere.

In almost a quarter of a century we have had one season in the top flight and have arguably just emerged from the worst or one of the worst periods in the club's entire history. I think the academy has existed for most of this period.
