Paraphrasing Jamie Hoyland on Late Kick Off:-
“I knew after a few days the job wasn’t right for me”
“I had three different bosses in six months”
“We had meeting after meeting when I wanted to be working with the players”

Anybody got the inside track on this? How worried should we be?
Are the meetings necessary due to the new Academy rules or just down to the “different bosses”?
Who were his three different bosses? (Pemberton, Unsworth, Nick Cox?)

Looking longer-term, it looks like it’s going to be all change again this Summer whatever happens.
With Unsworth possibly taking on first team duties. Would he want to step back down if Morgan doesn’t get the job?
The unfortunate perils of promoting from within, there’s going to be a lot of upheaval in the Academy either way.

I don't have an inside track on this. I watched the U18s at the beginning of the season under Pemberton and they looked quite good (albeit Diego was playing before his promotion to the first team squad).

I don't normally take much notice of results at either U18 or U21 as it is about developing players but I think Hoyland only had one win in his 6 months.

You're not telling me he spent day in day out in meetings. His side produced 1 win in 6 months that doesn't look good, maybe he just wasn't the right person.

If Morgs get the job I think there will be closer liaison between him at the U21s and U18s.

On the one hand costs have gone up in order to fulfill Level 2 Academy requirements but they've clearly been tight on budget.

I'm not fully ITK but know a little. I would take what Mr Hoyland said with a large pinch of salt.

They do have regular 'Forums' these are meetings between coaching staff to discuss player development.

Neither Mr Hoyland or Mr Unsworth look to develop players in the style we have had in the past i.e. Mr Pemberton. They are more blood and thunder coaches. Maybe it is a win win, we get Mr Unsworth working with the first team on their passion and aggression and we get someone who can develop the whole player in the academy set up.

I agree. I imagine Stephenson and Cox will actually have the main say on who is picked next.

We could do a lot worse than everyone swallowing their pride and asking Pembo if he'd like to come back. I'm pretty sure he isn't currently working. Failing that go for a younger up and coming coach.

Pembo given the circumstances under which he left would only come back as the u-21 development coach the job Forest gave him. Bear in mind the Head of the Academy under the new rules has to be non-coaching role hence the reason Stevenson is in charge.

If this is true it does make me despair of how SUFC is run from top to bottom.

:(

I can't say I know anything behind the scenes, but the one thing I can tell you was that there was a big difference in the football being played since Hoyland took over from Pemberton.

I think we'll be looking at someone more like Pemberton over Hoyland. Nick Cox was obviously at Watford and they are all about good football at that level, so I'm sure him and Walmsley will be able to find the right man to keep the academy progressing.

That does beg the question why for continuity they didn’t appoint “someone more like Pemberton” when Pemberton left.
It must be difficult for the kids if they’re being expected to adopt a new style of play every time a coach leaves.
Still, it’s good practice for what they can expect in the first team I suppose ;-)
