I bet some of those milestones would have been reached if he stayed with us and the Prince doesnt want to pay them out, hence the transfer.

Doubt it, they would have surely been related to playing X amount of games in the Prem, qualifying for something, cup performances, and England caps.

Mostly impossible now we've been relegated, and when Pope and Henderson are available again, he won't be in England contention.

I'm guessing one of the main milestones would've been staying up last season which I would imagine the Prince would've been quite happy to pay out on compared to the alternative 🤔

doesnt matter what we all think its quite obvious slav cant bring the players in he wants unless ramsdale or berge or even both are sold were not the first relegated club from the prem to be in this situation my opinion is that both will be sold but if it enables us to bring 5 or 6 new faces in so be it the whole squad needs freshening up
I reckon it’ll just be rammers with some leaving on loan. No one will come close to berges release clause

What if we can get someone that was arguably the best championship keeper last season + use the money to fund other squad improvements - All without causing us long term financial issues?

Then I'll have a pint of what you're drinking

I reckon relegation probably null and voided just about every add on going.

Verrips is genuinely a good keeper. We didn’t go through the courts to get him for nothing. Top clubs in holland were sniffing round him after his loan

He didnt look great with the ball at his feet even when he wasnt under pressure and Carlisle didnt exactly test him so I will reserve my judgement

Even when it is good money, I can never sit here and think 'great, another one of our better players is going elsewhere'. Given we are close to mid-August and haven't signed anybody, it was becoming obvious the board were waiting for one of the big assets to go.

As for Verrips - he can't be that great as he's played second and third fiddle for years. Looking really L1 in the keeper department now, and we will be shooting ourselves in the foot if we dont bring someone else in.

Honest answer to an honest question.

Has Ramsdale improved us during his time here.

I dont think he has, based on the goalkeeper that we had before and the one before him.

So him leaving and putting money back into the club is a good move, maybe fund our targets to actually improve the team.
Is he better than Henderson? No. But he improved us over verrips, Moore or Blackman which were the definitive alternatives. Whether we could have brought in better who knows as that’s a hypothetical discussion to which there’s no concrete answer.

I agree 100% but what are those 3 worth? And would they leave us cash in the bank to strengthen? We’d get them off the wage list which would be the most beneficial thing but I don’t think we’d get anywhere near £5m-£10m for any of them. Huge loss of Moose/ Mcburnie

McBurnie signed a 4 year deal on a £17m transfer in June 2019. He's on the books for £8.5m at the moment so anything above that would be reflected as a profit in the accounts. Similar for Mousset: £6m (ignore the full-fat French caps, 10 PL goals etc £10m Bournemouth leaked to the press) over three years so he's currently valued at around £2m.

Colourful table of various PL goalkeeper stats last season:

Ramsdale performs worst on clean sheet % (team metric), pass completion (80% of his attempted passes were long - clear Wilder tactic there) and penalty saves. His save % is decent, performance on crosses surprisingly good and he has a positive PSxGA metric.

We’re making a profit on a player we vastly over paid for just over 12 months ago despite getting relegated. Seems like a good deal to me.

If we keep him and don’t get promoted, we won’t be able to command anything like the fee that’s currently being routed next summer.

My main priority would be is he good with his hands first
We can’t sell ramsdale and not replace that would be mental it would leave us with verrips who is at best unproven and foderingham who’s proven shite. But as GHLF says that’s not the case and we’re replacing him before letting him go then I’m fine with that state of affairs.

Lets just giver verrips a chance first in my opinion. If the coaching staff think he’s good enough then im happy but if they decide he’s not and we get someone in im happy too. Either way i think rammers I replaceable

A top keeper is arguably even more important for success this season, with the attacking way we’re looking to play.

When have we ever ‘used the money’ well over the many years of selling our best players. Absolute rubbish argument.
Selling your best players doesn’t work - see Watford & Norwich last year.

Well we dont know as I said Carlisle didnt really test him
A big part of being a keeper especially nowadays with the passing about the six yard line bollocks is you have to be good with your feet and I didnt feel at all at ease with him. When we didnt pass it around our area he kicked it downfield to Jebbison who didnt really win anything and the ball just came straight back

Cos he was cheap (free agent) and low wages.
Plus he is better than the kids we have sitting about in Eastwood and Dewhirst.
I’m sure if there was another free keeper on low wages better than Wes Wilder would have got him.
If Wes is no.2 , WTF were we chuffing about with Verrips , Eastwood & Dewhirst then ?

Fair enough but we can’t go into the season with verrips and foderingham as our senior two. Because if verrips isn’t good enough or gets injured then we’re relying on league 2 at best wes to step in.

Watford made £45m in sales and Norwich similar

I agree with foderingham. Very bad keeper

You don’t know that….he may have had other offers on the table. Plus you’re suggesting then that we could have signed a better keeper on a shorter deal. Maybe given we needed a keeper this was the best option from others available. Not like we were signing a third keeper as cover while having a clear 2 fit and ahead of him…he was basically coming in as a number 2 given Moore’s injury.

Interesting that Wilder has suddenly become a manager who loved to waste the clubs money. Odd
Not suddenly mate , but progressively since Summer 2019

You have to laugh at local journos putting out completely opposite stories.

I'm not sure that 'the passing about the six yard line bollocks' is compulsory.
And even he was good at it, do you see players further up the pitch keeping the ball for long enough to make the fans feel confident?
