Would we have won the play offs? We never seem to have a problem getting to the final, so it would've been us v Villa.

That second half was one of the worst collective bottle jobs seen at BL in many a year.

However, the players themselves were absolutely not bottlers, as their reaction the following Friday (which was nervy until the last minute), and then the Easter Monday at Hull (which was nervy for all of about 25 mins) showed in spades.

The bottle-jobs description was ok at the time but obviously not meant to describe the players as bottle-jobs at a key point of the season? The description of bottle-jobs that some gave was ridiculous at the time, and remains ridiculous now – the race had been going back & forth week on week, yet apparently it was this one with 4 (?) games left that apparently everything was confirmed? It was, as you say later, a slip-up. An unfortunate one yes, but I still get amazed at the degree to which there was such an overreaction. What we displayed repeatedly that season was that we were a team that would react the right way from a set-back such as that – the polar opposite of the weak-minded players they were being described as after that game. We’d only recently seen that displayed with the run we went on after the Villa game.

It was a wrong description. Plenty felt it was wrong at the time, and it was shown to be so afterwards.

He was completely wrong in my view. The team had battled hard all season, often against better teams, and in that game a resurgent Millwall just kept coming.

I don’t see how turning up and just not playing that well is bottling it.

We had a very disappointing home draw to Millwall. Like most I thought our automatic chances were now minimal and it looked like playoff 'fun' awaited.

What pissed me off more though, was twats on here, insisting Wilder 'had to go'.

Nowt like showing a bit of faith and patience, is there?

Covid aside, just look back to 2016 and see how far we've come.

Good thread with some excellent posts on a theme of holding ones nerve, Well a year or just over will resurrect that theme in the shape of returning to playing again after this unprecedented stoppage. It could well be a lottery how the league positions fall at this seasons end. I believe they will play out the season. So lets be positive in our support, not showing our dismay when events don't go our way. It's only a handful of games, lets keep the negativity till they are all over and roar on The Mighty Blades to a position they deserve on merit.

I thought that was us in the play offs, past history and all that, but mainly as I didn’t expect Leeds to drop as many points and us to win every remaining game. Based on the performance, I think it was a fair opinion.

We drew at Stoke, final day. But it didn't matter then.

I remember being in the Railway after the Millwall game with that nasty dejected feeling that none of us had felt for a good while. You know the feeling; where the long shot hope unbelievably mutates into expectation which ends up withering right at the end. As I have gotten older, football has gradually had less of an influence over my mood but I was depressed that night.

On the Easter weekend we had Forest in an early kick off which we dominated and I came straight home after the game because I had some gardening work to do. I thought about putting the radio on but I couldn't stomach it, I switched myself off from the world for 4 hours and during that time resigned myself to the certainty of play off heartbreak.

When I did come around to checking the scores I thought I'd caught sunstroke. Wigan had a man sent off in the 15th minute, went 1 nil down and still won?!? Even I couldn't supress the optimism from rekindling. The irony of our promotion being resurrected on Easter weekend wasn't wasted on me!

I was climbing the walls in anxiety about the Hull game, but Didsy alone calmed all the nerves. That same night IIRC Leeds had Brentford away and Maupay put them 1 nil up early. When I caught up with that result I was ecstatic.

The Ipswich game will live with me forever. The lingering shred of anxiety was relieved early on thanks to Scott Hogan. If his goal was relief, then JOC's goal was ecstasy; Sheffield United are Premier League. The atmosphere on London Rd and around Town that night was fantastic. Blokes hugging you in the street, strangers offering you tins of ale. I felt awful the next day but rewatching it all on SSN plus the exposure of Wilder & the players on social media made it all worthwhile.
