One of my favourite away days of recent years. Sunderland had just come down from the Premier League and were still seen as a big scalp. They were rubbish, but we were brilliant at one of the few new grounds with character. A lot of fans were unhappy that Clayton Donaldson was our only new striker, he was brilliant this game. In particular his second goal, a great ball through by Brooks and Donaldson smashed it into the top corner. Only ruined by the fact that he injured himself what scoring. Happy memories from a great away day, and we started to believe that there was nothing to fear in this league.

"Tynchy Stryder, he's one of our own......"
I'd forgotten that, didn't the Sunderland fans think we were singing about Tynchy Strider? Strange to think that not so long ago we thought Wilder was going to be the next Sunderland manager.

We thought that was a big result at the time. Someone spoke to Coutts the day after, he said it was an easy game, they are shite and will go down. He was right.

It shows that you should never read too much into a result at this stage of the season.

Although you could read quite a lot into that result. Coutts was right, they were shite and we did go down and we finished in the top half. Disappointing in the end, but we would have accepted that a year ago.

I was on a cruise ship in the Med watching the scores come through with JOC's mum.

Just for balance I should say that her fella and my missus were there too ;)

Was this a chance meeting or do you always make a point of holidaying with parents of Blades players?

Completely by chance.

I went to the ships bar to watch SSN wearing a Blades polo shirt and all they had on the tv's was Bournemouth v someone.

A lad at the bar saw my shirt and said in a broad geordie accent "your lot are playing the Mackems today aren't you, well I hope you stuff em. I'm a geordie" and then he showed me his Newcastle tattoo.

I said "so do I, I've come down to watch the score coming in but they haven't got SSN on the tele"

"Nay worry" he said "I'm getting em to change one. What do you think of JOC?"

"He's magic" said I

"Well I'm with his mum" said he, "She'll be down in a minute"

Moments later in walks a petite blonde lady.

Geordie says "Sharon, this lads a Blade, look at his shirt"

"What do you think of JOC " says she in a broad scouse accent.

"He's magic" says I

"He wears a magic hat" says she

"You know I was really disappointed when I found out that song wasn't just his she added"

We had a good afternoon together.

Jack's mum, her other two sons, and her partner/ husband (saw his Newcastle tattoo too) were sat behind me and Lmaobob at the Northampton game

Does his mum sing his song everytime he headed the ball ?

One of my favourite moments came when towards the end of the promotion season I was walking up the Moor and a group of Blades fans had asked a group of buskers to play the music while they sung his song - magic.

And him wearing a magician's hat after mk away and somebody throwing him a pretend brick to head. Summed up the spirit in the team beautifully

Had a cracking day out in the sun , a day on the lash & and an away win on ground where I’d only seen us lose before .. doesn’t seem a year though !

This was also one of my favourite away days of recent years - and there’s been plenty since Wilder took over. I’d been at a works do the night before and ending up stumbling in at 5. On the train to Newcastle at 9 back on the beers.

Had a great day out in sunny Newcastle but almost missed kick off in Sunderland due to going too late to the metro. Top atmosphere in the away end and we played them off the park. Think most of us thought it was abit of a scalp at the time.

Back to Newcastle to find a pub with the Pigs and Forest on before going home - had a few weird looks of the locals when we cheered Forest scoring but we were way too pissed/giddy to care about Pigs winning by a couple.

As part of the we, I never ever thought Wilder was going to Sunderland.
