Just something to think about while we wait for Leeds

If Wilders promotion team, Hecky’s promotion team and our current team were to play in a round robin who would come out on top

I think possibly the current team due to the depth of the squad would shade over the other Wilder team

Secondly what would be your best 11 from the three teams mine is 5-3 -2

Hendo

George B, Bash, Souttar Jack O Burrows

Blaster Souza Ndiaye

Moore Sharp

But I could be wrong

Not going to lie, I thought this was going to be revealing The Lonely Island as some form of super fans...

I think As it stands today, Wilders Promotion team would be my bet.

The big thing was they were already on an upward trajectory. This current team is both very young and very new. I think if this team is successful this season the question raised again next summer would be more of a head scratcher!

Maybe its rose tinted glasses but I think the only player who gets into a Wilder Promotion side is Ndiaye.

The 2018-19 Wilder team was the best Blades team I've ever seen.

Henderson
Stevens
Basham
Egan
O'Connell
Baldock
Norwood
Fleck
Duffy
McGoldrick
Sharp

And it was largely the same group of players that finished 9th in the Premier League the season after.

That sounds good to me 👍😁

How good does that squad look

Egan
Gilchrist

Norwood
McGoldrick
Sharp
McBurnie

If we are choosing players in their prime for us, then we haven't had nearly enough time to assess most of the current team really, but even at this stage I would pick Soutar ahead of Egan, and (controversially maybe) Arblaster ahead of Norwood. I also think Hamer has proven himself at numerous levels now, so warrants a starting place.

Up front is a tough selection though, because I really loved Didsy, and Sharp was just prolific as well as being "our" Captain.

So on that basis I have chose a bench too.

McAtee got to be in the combined squad for me, the promotion season he was unbelievable for creativity and scoring goals

Henderson
Baldock - Basham - O'Connell - Stevens
Norwood - Fleck
Ndaiye - McGoldrick - Gibbs-White
Sharp
Souttar or Egan maybe gets in ahead of Basham, as they're perhaps better suited to a 4. There's also potentially a case to have Arblaster over Norwood if he has the season that we all think he might. Other than that, I think the team picks itself, with nobody from this season currently good enough to muscle in.

Early days but I think this years side would give the Wilders promotion team a run for their money and its probably 50/50. We are better at the back now.

1. Cooper
2. Gilchrist
3. Basham
4. Souttar
5. O'Connell
6. Burrows
7. Berge
8. Hamer
9. Duffy
10. NDaiye
11. Sharp

Notable mentions would be Arblaster, Souza, McGoldrick, Fleck, Stevens and McBurnie.

Hamer, Gibbs- White, Fleck
Ndiaye, Sharp
don't forget, the same team that got us to 9th was also, (bar Duffy) the one that was relegated the following year, it was a great time to be a Blade and we were on a great run, then when we started losing there was no plan B and we were found wanting, the current team are gelling together , but let's wait while we play the stronger teams that'll be a test of players and manager

My starting 11 would be similar except drop fleck to the bench and put Norwood next to blaster.

I’d also drop MGW for Didzy.

Prime Didz, Hamer and Ndiaye up top would be absolutely ridiculous in the championship.

We’ve really been spoiled for talent at this level these last few years.

This team is nowhere near as good as the last Wilder promotion team. Not even close
Yeah that wilder promotion team would win 8/10 games against this one and probably 7/10 against Hecky’s. It’s not just the skill levels - that team was packed full of captains with a winning mentality, at the peak of their powers. Proper bunch of men.

I like our current team and there’s definitely room to for them to grow into something special. But it would be men vs boys for the most part.

I was tempted to put Didzy in ahead of MGW too. On his day, Didzy was just magic and we saw a lot more of him.

I just think that MGW had a bit more in terms of goal scoring and set piece delivery. With Hamer as well, we would then have two FK specialists in the team.

Tough call though.

It’s also the best team I’ve seen but that was mainly because the system used by Wilder played to their strengths and they were incredibly well drilled, seemingly knowing who and where to pass without even looking or thinking about it.

However on an individual level none of that team were wanted by any other Premier league clubs which kind of tells its story.

Think NDiaye is the most talented of the lot but the current team also has plenty of individual talent too.

Also I’m a massive fan of Duffy, in many ways my favourite player.

An absolute travesty and a huge mistake to break up the 39 goal partnership that was BillDids.

I was disappointed Billy didn't get much game time in 2019-20 but McBurnie and Mousset both had solid debut seasons.

They were our joint top scorers with 6 each.
