As long as I have been alive (which is probably less than most of you!), the major in yorkshire have been Sheff Utd, W**dy and Leeds. (yes i know leeds think theyre bigger than they are but theyre still up there)

But now it appears the balance of power is shifting to what where the 'minor' clubs in yorkshire. Barnsley and donny only seem to be moving in one direction whereas im sad to say the other three are stagnant or moving backwards. Considering that these other clubs have very similar financial situations to us, can anyone explain this?

This is not just Yorkshire but is actually happening acros the country. 5 years ago who would have said that wigan, bolton, reading, stoke, hull, burnley and blackpool would all be gracing the premier league? and competing. Is this tightening of finances helping the smaller clubs close the gap? i simply cant explain it.

In all honesty I don't think so. After watching last nights match and hearing reports from Derby I really believe we might be on the cusp of something at United that could change the club totally.

I just hope the support back the team as much as they did in the first half yesterday where is was great to see them clapped off despite them being 1 down.

It's not a new phenomenon Blader. Some clubs are better run than others. I go back to the early 80's when the top flight featured the likes of Notts County, Luton, Watford, Brighton, Swansea whilst Newcastle, Leeds, Wendy, Chelsea and Man City all contested the second. Occasionally, well run and managed smaller clubs can gain the upper hand on larger, poorly run ones. The situation was historically a temporary one and once the bigger clubs sorted themselves out the status quo was returned. However nowadays the skewed financial distribution - skewed even more with 4 years parachute money - means this is now less likely to happen.

With crowds down across the Championship rather than the Premiership, completley the opposite of what most expected post-World Cup, that drawbridge is pulling up at an alarming rate.

Aye, League one and administration could change the club totally.

I really think you are way over the top about how good we were last night. We were playing Scunthorpe and we should be dominating them at home - it's not a monumental, ground breaking achievement to pass the ball a bit and dominate against scunthorpe. Yes we were unlucky in first half and it was much better to watch but it was not 90 minutes of bombardment and a one-off break and a one nil loss. The second half was very poor for me and we lost 4-0.

League one - you really are such a girl with those over reactions Mica. :)

I think Blackpool were something like the 50th different club in the Premier League which is remarkable considering the ever growing gap in finances and the fact it's been going for less than 20 years. Despite that, there's probably 15 clubs who have been there for the most part which suggests that there's plenty who have had their season or 2 of glory and then fizzled out, some more alarmingly than others.

As Raul says, it's all about money these days and the 'bigger clubs', and better run clubs, will invariably come out on top. The likes of Donny and Barnsley are probably at their level and whilst they may dabble with the play-offs or even 'do a Blackpool', it's unlikely that they'll be anything other than a 1st/2nd division club for the foreseeable future. Where we stand in the heirarchy is up for debate but even though some on here believe we're on the point of destruction, we still have a much greater chance of success than those two and I'll be surprised if either finish ahead of us this season.
