A Preston fan verdict on Hecky….

They are currently 20th just outside the relegation zone on goal difference. Equally 4 points away from mid table.

From what I’ve seen they seem to be generally favourable towards him. I think the issue at Preston and what most managers find is what type of club are Preston? They aren’t playoffs candidates? They hopefully don’t go down so there just mid table.

It’s easy for a manager to stagnate there. 1 loss and the knives will be out 2 wins and he’s seen as a fantastic manager. Hopefully works out well for him.

Had one eye on their match with Sunderland yesterday and Preston could've been out of sight after the first half, but for some absolutely woeful finishing and a lack of composure in front of goal. Sunderland improved a bit second half and should also have probably snatched a win. 0-0 a fair result overall and shows there isn't really that much in it between most of the Championship. It's all about eking out the results week in, week out.

Should never have been sacked.
Should have done what Wolves did.
Sack the moronic new defensive coach who was shambolic when he was manager
And that lazy bag of shite McDonkey who had been sent off stupidly for the second time.
Sadly I think it was always @saudi49er's plan to bring #WankerWilder back.
And thats why Billy Sharp was ejected despite Heckys wishes - as a jealous Wilder had been trying from even before his goals got us promoted under him.
Enda Stevens leaving as a cover cost us the bad start with the left back disasters but not the blind spot with the useless McDonkey. That being said he could hardly play Jebbison as against City in the semi-final.

I was a really big Heckingbottom fan whilst he was here.

He did a tremendous job under difficult circumstances and potentially saved the club from collapse, all whilst demonstrating admirable restraint in interviews.

I was always impressed with his ability to get the best out of players, very few individuals didn't improve under his leadership.
And, although the football wasn't always the most attractive, I felt we looked well organised / coached and had a pretty clear identity with and without the ball.

Just to say, I'm really pleased to see him & McCall doing a great job at Preston and hope it continues.
I think they're a really under rated coaching team and thought they'd attract a job with greater resources after the job they did here...

On PNE, they're a long suffering fan base, so it wouldn't be the worst story to see them have a bit of success.

Really good to see him doing well. I just think he probably is too understated to get a bigger job. He comes across as so down to earth but in a fairly quiet way he isn't going to grab attention.

Getting play off semi finals and then promoted whilst under transfer embargo is a serious success and one I think even us as fans don't fully appreciate (because of the PL season I guess)

The injuries plagued his time here and were the one black cloud on his reign..

Without them, we'd have probably smashed the division.

It did stop feeling coincidental after a while. Hopefully he's adapted his training methods (if it was that).
