A good manager in no matter what field makes the best of the tools at his disposal by managing them correctly to find circumstances in which they excel. Unfortunately Adkins has not been capable of doing that; for a manager who was capable see Howard Kendall who initially took the same group of players that Bassett left behind and turned them into a football team.
Pass, move, one touch, dynamic football , yes he was helped at a later date with some good players but his initial period proved that a good manager can make a significant impression.
On his performance this season I do not believe that Adkins is a good manager, but until we are all in full possession of the facts it is difficult to build a case either way. He however has to be proactive and build a new squad in the summer and have us challenging by Christmas or we will be looking for a new guy.

Either way we will only really improve when / if McCabe leaves

Previous managers had the tools at their disposal.

Adkins in fairness, only has 'tools' who need disposing of.
I wouldn't be disposing of £500k in transfer fees and considerably high (probably among the highest if not the highest in L1) wages for 4 awful footballers in much of a hurry!

Nope not enough threads pointing out an example of a United manager who turned round the same group,of players and had them playing good positive football.

Anyways who are you to tell people what they can and cannot post, add something of value as opposed to being critical of others who,are stimulating debate.

Oh and I am not prepared to debate your point any further , THE END

How many unbeaten games did we have under the better Nigel ? I agree btw ,endeavour ,tactics and formations don't win games ,players do.

I remember when Joe Wostinholm was manager. Those were rough days, clueless about tactics, no Plan B, training methods, what training methods!!??

The John Nicholson came along, fabulous first season, but second was a bit of a let down. highlight though was a 1-0 v Pigs.
If we'd entered Europe, apart from 1914, we'd surely have been vying for a major trophy. Still never mind, old John only lasted 33 years in the job.

Those were the days. My friend. I thought they'd never end. But Adolf came along and we all know the rest... Slippers and flat caps off the same morning Adolf bombed John Street in the afternoon.

Late Night Final.

Yes. those were the days.

Agree Kendall changed the style but we didn't go on a winning run with the same layers Bassett had Kendall made a few signings - Kendall's first few league games were draws

Adkins stated that we have the sixth highest budget in L1...

Kendall already had one of the best keepers in the land and a prolific 2nd tier striker at his disposal though. He also had a Norweigan international defender and quality like Hodges and Whitehouse. He then brought in David White, Don Hutchison, Mark Paterson, Andy Walker, Gareth Taylor etc. during the course of that first season. He wasn't restricted by transfer windows and was backed by the board.

I really wish I could find that piece from Flashing Blade titled "Hitler was a Wednesday fan".

Yes the article said that we were second top of the first division and Wendy were in the bottom four of the second division when Hitler invaded Poland
As I remember, Hitler told Goring to bomb all British cities and when that had been done and Goring showed Hitler the grainy images he went up the wall about Sheffield and the destroyed steel works. Goring protested and said he did not understand " You told me to bomb all industrial cities so I took out Coventry, Bristol, Liverpool, Portsmouth and you told me to bomb Sheffield too". "No you idiot" shouted Hitler "I told you to Bomb Sheffield 2".
Perhaps that dug up bomb all those years ago was Gorings second attempt to satisfy Hitler;)
